关于我们

The Texas State Aquarium (TSA) is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) wildlife conservation-focused institution. Established in 1990 and designated as the official Aquarium of Texas, the Texas State Aquarium is ranked among the top 5 best aquariums in the nation by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. Each year, it attracts over 600,000 visitors, showcasing the sights, sounds, and vibrant wildlife of the Caribbean and South Texas Gulf Coast. As a non-profit, the Aquarium relies on support from admissions, donors, and members to further its mission of education and wildlife conservation. Operating since 1995, the Aquarium's Wildlife Rescue Program is the only one in Texas licensed to care for injured mammals, sea turtles, shorebirds, and raptors. It has successfully released 4,450 animals back into their natural habitats. In March 2023, with support from numerous donors, the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue opened, featuring vital science and technology, including Texas's only wildlife CT scan machine and an emergency deployable field stabilization system. Dedicated to workforce development, the Aquarium reached 30,487 students in 2023, spanning primary to graduate education. The Flint Hills Resources Center for Excellence in STEM Education integrates best practices from education, research, and industry to advance STEM learning in South Texas and beyond. The Wildlife Response Operations Center (WROC) at the Texas State Aquarium is a formalized framework for emergency response along the Texas Gulf Coast. The first of its kind in the country, it leads disaster and wildlife response planning, training, and operations. WROC partners include Texas Parks & Wildlife, Texas General Land Office, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), National Park Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, Port of Corpus Christi, and the Texas State Aquarium.

YOUR SUPPORT helps us save Texas wildlife when they need it the most. ????? With GivingTuesday just around the corner on December 3rd, we need your help to raise $10,000 for critical wildlife conservation and resiliency efforts. Every dollar makes a difference! This week, two sea turtles were released back into the wild! Both had been in our care since the January cold stun event and are now fully recovered: ?? The smaller of the two, arrived with severe cold-stunning injuries but has made a full recovery. After months of rehabilitation, it was in perfect condition and ready to return to its home in the lake. ?? The larger turtle faced the added challenge of fibropapillomatosis and required surgery to remove tumors. After months of rehab and healing, it’s now strong, healthy, and ready to swim freely! We are incredibly grateful to have been part of their recovery journey. ? Why Your Support Matters When a wildlife crisis hits, we have to jump into action, but we can’t do this alone. As we brace for another potential cold-stunning season, your support this GivingTuesday is crucial. Together, we can ensure that we’re ready to rescue, rehabilitate, and release animals who need us most. Donate ?? https://bit.ly/3UJwJMd

The Aquarium’s Wildlife Rescue on the Road made its way over to Miller Metro Prep. ?? Thanks to Reliant’s continued support, dozens of students participated in hands-on activities and learned about the importance of wildlife conservation and minimizing human impact on coastal environments. ?? Our educators taught the students how the Aquarium’s Wildlife Rescue Program rescues, rehabilitates, and releases injured animals, and what they can do to help wildlife. This immersive, STEM-based program aims to instill the importance of advocating for the environment and understanding the significance of caring for wildlife. ???? Special thanks to Reliant Energy for their unwavering support. Book your program today! ?? https://bit.ly/49On1gz #wildlife #animalrescue #outreach #education #corpuschristitx #aquarium

President & Chief Executive Officer at Texas State Aquarium

Last week, I had the honor of addressing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, where I expressed the Texas State Aquarium's gratitude for more than 35 years of partnership. This collaboration has been instrumental in advancing the Aquarium's wildlife rescue program and establishing the nation’s first emergency operations center dedicated to wildlife disasters: the Wildlife Response Operations Center (WROC). This unique center, a cooperative of eight state and federal agencies, is now recognized as the only one of its kind in the U.S., putting Texas at the forefront of wildlife disaster management. Recently, the WROC hosted the South Texas Coastal Zone Area Committee’s workshop and tabletop exercise, facilitated by Hess Corporation, the Texas General Land Office, and the U.S. Coast Guard. This event provided critical incident management training, including oil spill containment and recovery and wildlife rehabilitation, further strengthening Texas’ leadership in wildlife and coastal resilience.

YOUR SUPPORT helps us save Texas wildlife when they need it the most. ???? GivingTuesday is just around the corner on December 3rd! Help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 to support our critical wildlife conservation and resiliency efforts. Every dollar makes an impact! This past January, our Wildlife Rescue team sprang into action when a severe cold front brought in 323 rescued green sea turtles into the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue at the Texas State Aquarium. When there is a sudden and drastic temperature drop in our waters, sea turtles will fall victim to cold-stunning. Many were left lethargic and unable to swim, facing health issues like pneumonia. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our team and partners, each turtle was assessed and promptly treated. These rescued sea turtles have been rehabilitated and deemed ready for release back into their natural habitat, with three still under the care of our veterinary team. ?Why Your Support Matters When a wildlife crisis hits, we have to jump into action, but we can’t do this alone. As we brace for another potential cold-stunning season, your support this GivingTuesday is crucial. If you do have to be on the Texas coast it is a small effort to tour the various sea turtle rehabilitation centers. During a sudden change of weather in winter, thousands of young green sea turtles can wash ashore here in hypothermia. Very interesting to see how they pick that up. In addition, on South Padre Island are several places where Kemps Ridley sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches. The tour began at the US Fish & Wildlife office in Houston where I gave an online presentation in front of about 300 people about our experiences with stranded sea turtles. Then in three days I visited the Center for Sea Turtle Research at Texas A&M University in Galveston, the Wildlife Rescue Center at Texas State Aquarium, Amos Rehabilitation Keep at the University of Texas, the Texas Sealife Center in Corpus Christi and Sea Turtle Inc on South Padre Island. One of the most special moments though was the interview I had with Dr. Donna Shaver a pioneer in research on the endangered Kemps Ridley sea turtle. An impressive personality who has been devoting her career to the mysteries of these animals since 1980. #seaturtle #conservation photos by Luke Kleijnendorst and Mary Kay Skopurra Diergaarde Blijdorp - Rotterdam Zoo Texas State Aquarium Sea Turtle, Inc. ??October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but Kimani is here to remind you that every month is a good time to stay vigilant and prioritize your health check-ups. Make sure to send this to someone you love as a reminder to schedule regular breast exams and take the time to educate yourself about the risks and warning signs of breast cancer. We honor and support the survivors, fighters, and warriors who have been affected by breast cancer. Awareness doesn’t end with October—let’s keep it going all year long! ?? Wildlife Care Team ??
