Seven years of working with Write on Sports Denver has provided a lot of great lessons, particularly in the area of fundraising. Fundraising is challenging. When we meet as a board, we all talk about our inadequacies as fund raisers and ruminate on how we could do a better job. It’s a constant concern for a small nonprofit. We have heard “No” plenty of times in a variety of euphemisms. We still keep asking and questioning our success. Meeting for our retreat today, however, provided a great moment of reflection. You know what? We have been doing this for seven years, and we’re still going. We have survived a pandemic, and we have continued to deliver a two-week, no-cost summer camp to help underserved middle school students improve their writing. And that’s something. Most businesses fail in the first year. Even more fail to make it five years. We have gone seven and we are planning our fifth camp for July 2025. That’s not bad. While it’s easy to engage in sell-flagellation and to rue our shortcomings, sometimes you have to step back and look at the larger picture. Sure, we have room to improve, but we have done some good work, and we are going to do more in the future. While we may see limitations, more than 100 former campers are seeing improved writing ability, increased confidence, and a new strength in how they present themselves. We may not be the wondrous fundraisers we want to be, but we ain’t too bad.

North American teams have consistently been pioneers and trendsetters in the world of basketball. I've had the honor of working with some of the top European Elite teams from the Euroleague, Eurocup, FIBA Champions, and ACB for over eight years. And it's a remarcable journey so far, I need to admit! The University of Utah serves as a shining example and partially explains why North American basketball organizations, in my view, are often several steps ahead of elite European basketball clubs, both strategically and technologically. Consider how the women's teams and their coaches integrate live capturing and coding into their routines—it's not just groundbreaking; it's become the standard. This begs the question: can you name even two Euroleague teams that employ similar techniques? This highlights a significant opportunity for growth in our field. We have a lot of ground to cover to elevate European basketball to the level of North American teams. Thankfully, solutions like Hudl provide all the tools necessary to achieve these advancements. Let's embrace this challenge and make a concerted effort to incorporate these cutting-edge practices into our teams. It's time to learn, adapt, and innovate. Let's work together to bring European basketball to new heights!

I am excited to begin sharing a series of articles I've written in collaboration with the leadership/staff of the PACIFIC NORTHWEST SECTION PGA called the Paradox Series. To set this up, let’s define the word “paradox.” This word is a noun that is defined as “a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that, when investigated or explained, may prove to be well founded or true.” In other words, a paradox can seem like a “contradiction in terms” but under reflection, it can be enlightening and valuable to understand and apply. With that in mind, let’s look at our first paradox, The Growth Paradox. The Growth Paradox https://lnkd.in/gpHFaqZm

Coach Chris Carlisle has won at all levels of football, including a Super Bowl ring with the Seattle Seahawks, but it was his many losses that shaped him. People love to talk about winning, but it's almost always built on losing. We all lose, but very few people persevere through it to become champions! Thanks for another powerful talk today coach and looking forward to reading your book

If your college or university has invested in an esports arena or esports industry related degree program you MUST be recruiting esports athletes to help nurture that investment for the long run. Hit inboxes, hit high school coaches inboxes, be present online with your team. #esportsedu #collegeEsports

With the 2024 MLB Draft in the books, let's take a look at how I would approach the process of evaluating and acquiring amateur talent for an organization. It isn't always enough to draft the best talent; you have to draft them with the understanding of how they fit in the organization, the cadence in which they arrive on the 40-man roster, and the logistics of your operations. Watch the video for more! #mlbdraft #mlb #baseball #logistics #operations #driveline #strategy
