Resistance to change is often about loss. Loss of control. Loss of financial benefit. Loss of relevance. These fears all come into play, sometimes separately but often all at once. Yes, change aversion is inherently human, but overcoming it is possible. But success is highly unlikely with a passive approach. Change management is skill unto itself and after representing and driving change at a number of healthcare and software organizations both big and small, I’ve come to realize the importance of understanding the root causes of change resistance (by key stakeholder), and proactively managing the change journey with empathy and intentionality. I frequently chat with healthcare tech companies about their US product strategy, business model, and go-to-market (#GTM) strategy. Below and attached are the core tenets of the conversation and my advice. I haven't changed these slides in 5+ years, so let me know if you see anything that needs updating. To be successful in #healthcare technology business development and product development, you must understand what drives your client's #economic motives. For example, too often, companies are building products, messaging, and selling as if "reducing costs and improving outcomes" is a fundamental motive in all provider organizations. In reality, it's a tiny subset of the market. Morally, almost everyone nods their head in agreement. Economically, they don't. There are ~10 different behavioral economic environments in US healthcare.

??????Have you noticed digital health companies are integrating new features and capabilities into their product offerings through M&As this year? Companies like DarioHealth bought Twill this February, Commure merged with Athelas this past October, purchased Rx.Health (Commure Engage), and also acquired Augmedix. Not to mention while venture capital deal count was down during Q3, average deal size held steady at $22M, matching 2023’s average deal size of $21.6M. With recent interest rate cuts, focused funding, and strategic M&A trends, it will be interesting to see how digital healthcare venture capital funding will progress to round out Q4, and head into 2025.
