?? For too long, Native peoples have been erased from the American narrative, our stories left untold, and our contributions overlooked—fueling a cycle of invisibility that we’re working hard to break. ?? That’s why we’re proud to support USA Today’s Native American Heritage Month Special Edition, dedicated entirely to the hard work being done across Indian Country to carry our cultures forward. This publication showcases how Indigenous knowledge systems hold answers to today’s most pressing issues, from environmental stewardship to community well-being. ?? We invite you to explore stories of resilience, innovation, and leadership from Native communities across the country including some familiar faces from the Tiwahe community. ?? 关于我们
Tiwahe Foundation is a place for giving — and giving back — that benefits the well-being of American Indian people and communities in Minnesota. We are a community foundation of friends and supporters — Indian and non-Indian — who have resources, time and talents to share. Together, we all work to unleash more philanthropy and generosity that are not only held within every person but also embodied collectively.

Pictured is Tiwahe ED, Nikki Pieratos, making evaluative observations at our Oyate Leadership gathering as we prepare to share out our impacts, because it’s important for the field that we demonstrate how Indigenous models work best… It’s important to document our impacts in writing, even though as we heard this gem yesterday at MDH’s #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth2024 panel, “Just because it’s not published, doesn’t mean it’s not happening.” - Natalie Nicholson (co-presented with CoCo Villaluz & Nikki Pieratos). Miigwech/Pidamayaye to Kris Rhodes at MDH for the invitation to share with your employees!

?? Join us on November 21 for Give to the Max Day! We are proud to uplift the incredible work of our friends at Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi. This Native-led organization is doing powerful work to honor and care for our natural places, sacred sites, and the rich cultural values they hold. The people behind Wakan Tipi mean so much to us at Tiwahe Foundation. Executive Director Maggie Lorenz, who also serves as our board treasurer, has helped forge a deep connection between our teams. Over the past year, we’ve shared joyous moments playing traditional Ojibwe games, visiting sacred sites, and learning about plant medicines together. Let’s help them reach their $15,000 goal! Your support will make a meaningful difference in preserving sacred spaces and cultural heritage for future generations. ?? Learn more and donate here: https://lnkd.in/gDrA8YpC

?? What an amazing day at AIMs last Saturday! Proud to sponsor & discuss the vital mission, "children are sacred & our future." Huge thanks to AIFEP Alumni Jenni Bush for leading the event! ???? OLN Director Baswewe Gayle inspired us with insights on cultural identity through her interactive session, OLN collaborator Susan Ninham & husband Dan Ninham shared teachings on Indigenous foods, and ED Nikki Pieratos reminded us that, we are more than our trauma. We support each org & community member who contributed to the day's success, let’s keep uplifting and empowering future generations! ????? #IndigenousLeadership #IndigenousPhilanthropy #AIFEP #OyateLeadershipNetwork

In recent years, with the help of Bush Foundation's Partnership Fund, cultural leadership organizations like African American Leadership Forum, COALITION OF ASIAN AMERICAN LEADERS, LatinoLEAD and Tiwahe Foundation have grown to become critical community resources in Minnesota. In 2017 the four organizations joined forces in an initiative called LinkingLeaders. Funded by F.R. Bigelow Foundation, LinkingLeaders aims to assess and understand the gaps between leaders of color and leadership opportunities across sectors. It’s proven to be a deeply valuable source of learning and connection for the participants. We're excited about the work these organizations have accomplished and continue to accomplish together! Read more about their work in community. ??
