When you lead with purpose, opportunity is endless.
“In the pediatric field, children face so many challenges managing their illness that they lose sight of the joy of their childhood. My goal is to restore that joy by making a child feel outside of their diagnosis by instilling detailed compassionate care tailored to that individual while addressing their nursing needs.” -Kash Calderon MSN, RN #UnifyHealthcare We’re excited to highlight why members of our?#AdniFam?community chose to be healthcare workers! They reached out to WBBM | CBS Chicago and we listened. Several families of medically complex children told me one of their biggest struggles is the constant search for help. In-home nursing care is promised to them by the State but recruiting men and women for the job is tough especially with an industry-wide nursing shortage. It leaves moms and dads to fill in caregiver gaps. Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Exhausted parents filed a class action lawsuit against the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) in 2015 over staffing shortages. A settlement was reached in 2019. How is it going? Well, a CBS2 analysis of HFS progress reports shows the staffing satisfaction rate is dropping and the number of cases with “no nurses” available is rising. HFS pointed me to rate increases that went into effect on January 1st. A $9/hr bump to $54/hr for RNs. Is it enough to help with recruitment? Time will tell - my latest CBS Chicago report explains why families of medically complex kids AREN’T encouraged by the pay raise. STORY: https://lnkd.in/gqi7xHPT Videographer/Editor: Allen Maniscalco

Another interesting investigation of CAPHRI researchers! Hilde Verbeek?and her team are investigating the specific positive elements of green care farms and how they can apply them in other nursing homes. Watch the video below for more information!
Everyone prefers to live at home for as long as possible. However, this is not always feasible, for example for those with dementia who rely on their environment to lead their daily life. Green care farms provide a completely different environment compared to traditional nursing homes, and they seem to improve the daily life and well-being of residents. Hilde Verbeek and her team are investigating the specific positive elements of green care farms and how they can apply them in other nursing homes. In this video, she explains how she collaborates with residents, their families, and care workers to support older adults in maintaining control over their own lives. #elderlycare #dementia #maastricht #maastrichtuniversity Maastricht UMC+Care And Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI) Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/dhv4bdCP

The SNEC-SERI faculty is proud to present the latest issue of Eye-Sight. Here we focus on our youngest patients: babies who need extra care for their eye health. Newborn babies born prematurely may need careful monitoring for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a disease that can have grave consequences for a child’s vision. Other highlights include: · The long-term safety of Atropine eyedrops in myopia control where there is no increased incidence of complications such as cataracts in adulthood 10-20 years later. · How our post-graduate nurses are upskilling themselves to lead thermal treatment for dry eye disease. · Our very first nurse clinician, Nazurah Loh. In an interview, she describes her path to success in nursing. Download a copy of our #EyeSight from our website: https://lnkd.in/gBGcbkiq Happy reading! #SNECSERI #EyeCare #Atropine #ROP #EyeSight

[Media release] The ACT Government continues to support the safety of hospital staff, patients and visitors by expanding the rollout of the Safewards model in 2024. Safewards is an evidence-based model that encourages teams, consumers, carers and families to work together to make wards safer for the health workforce and their patients. Research has shown that the Safewards interventions ensure staff, patients and carers are supported, reducing potential conflict and rates of occupational violence and restrictive practices. This includes measures such as: ? staff and patients agreeing on mutual expectations of each other in the hospital environment, ? finding more positive ways to de-escalate situations when patients are in distress, and ? making sure patients get support before they receive bad or surprising news to limit the distress the person or their families may experience. Following a successful trial in four wards across Canberra Health Services, the Safewards model has been implemented across a further four wards, including medical and mental health units, and will continue rolling out across public inpatient wards in the coming years. Working closely with the ANMF ACT Branch, the?Nurses and Midwives Towards a Safer Culture ‘The Next Steps’ Strategy?will enable 12 wards to implement the model by June 2026, supported by an investment of $4.7 million from the ACT Government.
