Domestic Violence in the Black Community By the Numbers
Black Health Matters
Providing information and resources about health and wellness within the African American community.
Black women face the highest risk of domestic violence, with 45% experiencing stalking, physical, or sexual violence in their lifetimes. Disturbingly, Black women are six times more likely to be killed by an intimate partner than white women. This crisis extends to Black teens, who experience domestic violence at twice the rate of their white peers, and Black men, 40% of whom report physical or sexual abuse by a partner. These statistics reveal a widespread issue that affects every part of our community.
Economic, social, and psychological barriers often make it difficult for victims to leave abusive situations. Factors like financial dependence, societal pressures, and fear of retaliation create significant challenges for those attempting to break free from violent relationships. In many cases, these barriers force victims to remain in dangerous environments, putting their safety at even greater risk. Awareness of the signs of abuse—emotional manipulation, isolation, physical harm—is critical to recognizing when someone needs help.
Domestic violence has severe mental health implications as well. Survivors are at increased risk of developing conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It’s essential to not only raise awareness but also provide accessible resources, legal support, and emotional care for those affected.

4 周I just have to highlight this, the abuse experienced by black women is not just by black men, but it is also by men from different backgrounds or races ??

1 个月#blackhealthmatters Good Morning through the activity here in the Mecklenburg library at the front desk today, they have indicated that the?#policecorruption?and?#DonaldTrump?are locking my Hotmail e-mail so that they can access my e-mail account. No, I am not changing my password so they have access to my personal e-mail. And, if Florida send my belongings to the East Coast-as Trump has been after my storage content for some strange reason, which I believe that he is after my art work which is in my storage unit for Le Core; my intellectual property, and he has been after my storage content since I was paying for my storage unit which is why they sabotaged my life. I will be filing a lawsuit for that specific reason in collaboration with the Florida police, Trump and any other abuse of power involved.
I'm a Trustee for Mums In Need, working with mums who've experienced post-separation coercive control. We're looking to connect with Black and Brown mums who're experts by experience in this, in a good enough place themselves where they are happy to speak/campaign about it (we don't want to re-traumatise/trigger anyone) and active on Instagram (at the moment, we've got some Patrons who're all active on Ins, but we recognise that this is not inclusive and we'd like to change this). If you know of anyone, please signpost them to us. Thanks.
