Deb P's Takeaway

In August I signed up for AWAI. In September I joined COS. In October Bootcamp arrived. From the isolation of my home office, I drank from a firehose of information, much of which was brand new to me. How would I ever learn all this? Who would ever hire me? Emotions, fear, anxiety, and confusion flooded my mind on a daily basis.

Then in Bootcamp I heard this woman speak in a smooth, calming, way. She knew how I was feeling. She’d been through it. She had taught many others. During her message she said one of the most important things,”Who cares!”

God, I love that phrase! Ilise Benun in her infinite wisdom and vast experience has taught me how to check my critical self-judgment. Who cares! Just try it! Close your eyes! Push the button! It won’t be perfect! I don’t expect perfect.

Take your time. Baby steps. Don’t rush. Slow down. Breath. Sleep on it. See what happens. Watch out for shiny objects.

Each of these “Ilise tidbits” has challenged my self-awareness and strengthen my confidence in my ability to be a copywriter. Having come from the crazy business world into copywriting has required me to let go, slow down, listen to myself, and practice silencing those internal critical voices. That’s where the “Who cares!” comes in handy.

During the 21 Day Challenge, you learn about using the business tool LinkedIn. At the beginning it can seem quite daunting. But taking small steps, stumbling, asking questions of Ilse and her talented colleague Jake, you are guided through the whole process of setting up a strong LinkedIn profile. You are never rushed. If life has caused you to be behind in the classwork, no worries, take your time catching up. And remember that this LinkedIn profile is always a work in progress.

Finally, don’t take something as a rejection or failure, but rather an opportunity for growth. See it as another building block toward your success as a copywriter. This is your business, your ideas, your work. You run it as you see fit. If someone doesn’t like it……Who cares!

Thank you for sharing this, my favorite part “Who cares! Just try it! Close your eyes! Push the button! It won’t be perfect!” I have to remind myself of these often and it helps. Thank you, Ilise Benun
