I've been exploring different models of corporate #SocialImpact, and specifically diving into partnerships between corporations and academia (be it universities, research institutions, etc.). Red Hat open innovation lab in Boston is a great example of this type of collaboration: ?? The company has partnered with Boston University to advance research and education on open source and emerging technologies. ??????This partnership is helping to create a more skilled workforce and drive innovation in the tech industry. ??This kind of collaboration is essential for creating a more just and equitable world. High tech. Deep tech. At High Tech Campus, we have companies that fall into both categories. One thing’s for sure, deep tech is, well, different, from other kinds of technologies. From this recent Innovation Origins article on deep tech: “If there’s anything that can solve Europe’s most significant challenges, it’s deep-tech. This field of technology, defined as “fundamentally new science and engineering making its debut in products and companies,” is at the forefront of the next wave of technological revolution.” According to a new report by Dealroom, Europe has what it takes to become a global hub for Deep Tech excellence: Strong fundamental research, well-educated talent, more public support than ever, and positive citizen sentiment. This we know. We see Eindhoven University of Technology is rising to the top, ranking 9th on the list of European universities which created the most Deep Tech spinout value. The 2023 European Deep Tech Report not only lays out the current landscape but also serves as a call to action for policymakers, investors, and industry leaders. The EIC Pathfinder falls under the Horizon Europe program and provides assistance to research teams by funding projects that aim to establish the scientific foundation for groundbreaking technologies. This support extends to early-stage research in scientific, technological, and deep-tech fields, with a focus on exploring new and innovative directions in science and technology to disrupt industries and create new opportunities. The program also helps in developing and scaling up innovative technological solutions that can lead to breakthrough technologies and disruptive innovations in Europe. Grant funding is available for early-stage technology development, with grants of up to 3 to 4 million euros for activities at low Technology Readiness Levels (TRL 1-3) up to proof of concept. Additionally, Pathfinder projects may receive extra funding to test the innovation potential of their research outcomes. Beneficiaries of the program have access to tailored Business Acceleration Services (BAS), including global partnerships, coaching, mentoring, expertise, training, and connections to the innovation ecosystem and peers.
