Gobble gobble, folks! Tom the Turkey here with some running advice! Starting out can be tough, like trying to outrun a farmer. Don't push too hard or you'll end up feeling plucked! This Thursday, we'll be rolling out our Couch to 5K training plan - it's perfect for all of the birds new to running. You start slow, mixing walking and short jogs. First week, you only run for a minute at a time. Easy as pecking corn! You can finish in 8 weeks, or take it slower. Remember, even us turkeys can trot a bit when we need to. Are you ready?! We're BACK! The Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot is back for its 32nd year this Thanksgiving! This year, Turkey Trot organizers hope to break two records set last year for participation and fundraising. Last year, 5,834 people participated in the race and more than $100,000 was raised for GRPS athletics. “The Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot is a celebration of community, health and the incredible spirit of our scholars,” said Dr. Leadriane Roby, GRPS superintendent. “Each step taken on Thanksgiving morning supports our scholar-athletes and strengthens the bond between our schools and the city. We look forward to it every year!” Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and BLUE CARE NETWORK OF MI are our presenting sponsors, and LMCU is sponsoring our Mini Trot.
