Open Hearts is facilitating a Book Study for educators/leaders in the Isaac School District to help foster a trauma informed approach to supporting staff and students. "What Happened to You?" is a book co-authored by Dr. Bruce Perry, a renowned psychiatrist and neuroscientist, and Oprah Winfrey. The book explores how early childhood experiences, particularly trauma, shape our behaviors and perspectives throughout life. The Book Study is intended to encourage empathy, understanding and the creation of a safer, more supportive school environment. Friday was a special night for Open Hearts. Not only did our Board and Leadership team attend the Arizona Diamondbacks game as part of the Board Retreat but we were also on the field to accept the Dbacks incredibly generous gift for our transitional housing project, The Diamond. As we prepare to open our doors to families and youth in transition who are unsheltered, we do so knowing that it would not have been possible without the support of the Diamondbacks and the Arizona Department of Housing We look forward to sharing our success stories with all of you!
-
Thank you to the Arizona Diamondbacks for being community champions and for helping to make this powerful new project a reality.
We are thrilled to be able to support the good works of Open Hearts Family Wellness - AZ and their opening of "The Diamond," an 11-unit complex created to provide a safe space and life training skills to unhoused families and individuals in Arizona. The facility was donated by the Arizona Department of Housing and program operations were funded by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation’s $1 million gift.??Plus, our amazing friends at Bob's Discount Furniture stepped in to furnish several of the units, showcasing their dedication to our community. The name “The Diamond” is a nod to its connection to the team as well as a nod to the multi-faceted approach to health and healing. Residents will be able to take advantage of life skill training, social hours, financial literacy training, mental health sessions, resume building and more, all aimed to help them acquire employment, prepare for the future and find permanent housing.

Open Hearts Family Wellness, in partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Arizona Department of Housing, and Bob’s Discount Furniture held a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening THE DIAMOND…..a 12-unit transitional housing program for unsheltered families and youth with wraparound services. Featured speakers included Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall, our own CEO Dr. Christopher Keck, Baxter (who mostly just waved), voice of the Diamondbacks Chuck Drago, and others all wishing well and expressing gratitude for this jewel we created together.
