Uniquely, differently effective!

Comfort is a strangely dichotomous word. In a situation of distress or pain, comfort can bring relief. Whereas in an existing state of comfort, being too comfortable can lead to stagnation, lack of growth or even cause potential harm.

Darwin’s theory says enough about the importance of evolution – those who grew, changed and adjusted continued to exist. Those that got too comfortable with what they are only made it to the interesting ( sometimes boring ) reads .

But like our childhood, every story that begins with Once upon a time…doesn’t always end with a happily ever after. What is that happily ever after? And, what about the incidents in the journey?

In the professional world, the stories of evolution or the fairy tales take the form of business journeys. The ones that identify the need to evolve and adapt learn to grow and survive. The ones that get too comfortable to notice the challenges and harms often cease to exist.?And if isn’t an offense to take names, then Blockbuster, Kodak, American Apparel, BlackBerry, Circuit City, and many others stand to prove the facts – They either got too comfortable, or failed to see the challenge of competition, or the random new innovations that came in and changed the game forever.

But more often than ever, the biggest challenge businesses face is let others know that Hey! We exist! Many a times, we need the products and services offered by some business somewhere in the world, but because of the lack of visibility and knowledge, we don’t even have an idea that they exist and are offering something that we need or prefer to have than something else.

In the last year, many businesses, mostly local and small scale faced the challenge of sustainment because they only existed as local businesses welcoming footfalls within a given territory. When everything suddenly went virtual almost overnight, their existence evaporated. The few businesses that made quick changes to put up their products on an ecommerce platform, now faced the challenge of competing with other big fish in the sea, where their existence got over shadowed.

Big businesses make a different mistake. Most often they fail to see competition, and otherwise they think that the same old principles that worked before would work now. Sometimes the paradigm shift is so subtle and simple, that it is overlooked.?Heard the story of that machine that won’t work and the experts couldn’t identify the fault because they were looking at everything complex and big. The fault was in a simple little thing that was so critical and simple, that everyone overlooked – except the one man who was literally a nobody, came out of nowhere and knew exactly where to look.

To play in the swimming pool and swim in the ocean are different things. Just because it’s Swimming don’t make the mistake to think it’s all the same.
