First and Foremost from my experience is to keep the client heavily involved with Communication. We always try to have a chain of command when it comes to communication with the client so we know if we let Management know first and they communicate to the rest of the employees or if we send a mass email to everyone at the client at once (these communication guidelines are decided when first onboarding a client). Next is when the Business Continuity comes in depending on the severity and risk assessment of how critical is the server to business functionality and what is the most efficient and fastest way to get the client back working normal.

How do you address user frustration and complaints during an unexpected system downtime?
In my experience Communication with the client and all end users is vital. We then follow that up with constant updates even when the only update is there is no update. I have found in the past just keeping our emails, texts or calls frequent with the client lets them know how this is a priority to us as well as them. This puts an emphasis on our Day 1 talks with them that their success is our success, so when their Business is affected so is ours.
