?? Be on the lookout for high tide flooding this coming week! Many locations, especially along the East Coast, can expect higher than normal tides on and around the full moon on the 17th. These higher than normal tides increase the risk of high tide flooding, including in the following locations: Kings Point, NY Sewells Point, VA Fort Pulaski, GA Eagle Point, Galveston Bay, TX Hilo Bay, Kuhio Bay, HI Increased coastal flooding and erosion is possible if these higher than normal tides overlap with a storm or strong winds. Welcome! NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS) is the nation’s premier federal science agency for our ocean and coasts. NOS is one of six major divisions within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is housed within the U.S. Department of Commerce. NOS is the nation’s most comprehensive coastal agency with world-class expertise in science, technology, and management. Offices and staff are located throughout the country. NOS conducts applied research and employs advanced surveying, observing, modeling, and computing technologies to provide services and tools that inform federal, state, and local decision making. The agency leads national partnerships to address and balance economic and environmental needs and conducts extensive outreach to ensure its services are meeting priorities. NOS is also a trustee for the long-term conservation of coastal resources, including response and restoration for oil and chemical spills. *Interested in working for NOAA? ????See flooding as it happens! In partnership with the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA), we brought coastal webcam imagery to NOAA’s Coastal Inundation Dashboard. Users can now quickly access webcam imagery from SECOORA’s WebCOOS network to visualize real-time flooding impacts while they monitor water levels during a coastal flooding event. Ever heard the phrase “too much of a good thing”? Algae are small plants essential to many aquatic environments. However, some algae can be toxic, and too much algae (even nontoxic species) can be harmful. In the new NOAA National Ocean Service Coastal Pollution Tutorial, learn the unhealthy impacts that harmful algal blooms have on aquatic and coastal environments, humans and coastal economies. https://lnkd.in/e9K3GXyF #HarmfulAlgalBlooms Partners in this effort: NOAA's Office of Response and Restoration, Marine Debris Program

As we face severe weather events across the nation, it can be hard to understand how our daily forecasts are linked to climate change. Think about it this way: Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get. https://lnkd.in/e_FhjJC2
