We're stoked to finally share one of the bleeding-edge projects we have been working on with the United States Department of Defense (DoD), specifically the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, Pacific (NIWC Pacific). Last year, we were approached by DIU to build a decentralized data backbone for distributing data across autonomous unmanned vehicles (UxVs) and ground control systems. In other words, they wanted to use HarperDB to build real-time drone-to-drone information-sharing networks to patrol vast areas of the ocean (in the air, on water, and underwater). After competing against 74 other submissions, HarperDB was selected to field-test a solution. With a solution built using HarperDB's core platform (yes, the one you can download and use today), we demonstrated HarperDB's ability to deliver telemetry and contact reports across a constellation of autonomous vehicles experiencing intermittent connectivity. This exercise showcased the next-generation capabilities of HarperDB as a Distributed Systems platform with deeply unified data, application, and streaming systems in one technology. Spectrum (access) has become a big topic of discussion over the last few years. The DOD needs to seriously consider the concept of Dynamic Soectrum Sharing (DSS) and how military access for training and experimentation, let alone operations, will be determined.

A declassified report originating from the Department of Homeland Security, now made public by the Department of Defence's All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, details the proposal for a program for the study of Advanced Aerospace Threats (AATs) and Advanced Aerospace Vehicles (AAVs) as well as correspondances regarding said proposal. This program, AARO claims, was discovered by the office from interviews conducted as part of their investigation procedures. On the offical .mil website, AARO includes the following paragraph: "The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) first learned of the KONA BLUE program from interviews conducted as part of its historical review. Multiple interviewees identified KONA BLUE as a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sensitive compartment established to protect the retrieval and exploitation of "non-human biologics." AARO researched the information provided by the interviewees and learned KONA BLUE was a Prospective Special Access Program (PSAP) that had been proposed to DHS leadership but was never approved or formally established. KONA BLUE never received any materials or funding, and there is no information beyond the proposal presentation marked with the KONA BLUE name." Very exciting times for this subject!
