Bank leadership at every session I attended at the #SmallBizBanking conference recently spoke about the importance of reaching and serving the banking needs of #diverse #smallbusinessowners – Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and others.
?
Banks are interested in learning from these small business owners what they need and what their challenges are.
?
I heard from #bankleadership across the U.S. about how important it is for their small business bankers to listen to small business owners and hear their stories.
Bank leadership knows they need their small business bankers to ask customers, “What do you need?” “Where are you on your business journey?” “How can we help you grow your small business?” “What problems are you facing?” Small business owners aren’t interested in hearing about a list of bank products bankers can provide.?They want to be heard. They want bankers to listen to their issues before making relevant (hopefully) recommendations.
?
The old adage applies:?“I don’t care how much you know until I know how much you care.”
?
Bankers believe this and want their frontline small business bankers to know, understand, and practice this.
