Taking yourself too seriously has never been a good look. I’m not suggesting that you put on your ‘clown shoes’ when you go to work but there are many advantages to being comfortable around using humour.?
We remember funny people – and those who make us laugh in public life, often do very well and climb the ladder of success in politics and business.?Not always for the right reasons, admittedly, but it’s human nature to laugh at other people as well as with them!
Now post-pandemic there’s an urgent need to get people back into the communal workspace, even for two or three days a week, not just to justify the rent, but to rebuild teams, restore confidence and recalibrate working relationships.?Fun should be on the menu along with the benefits of company and communication.?
Laughter, humour and comedy are all communal activities and, even if it isn’t obvious, this is often the glue that keeps teams and friendship groups together, even beyond the office walls.?Why would you want to socialize with somebody you work with who doesn’t like laughing? ?
I was once told by a former friend that she never came to any of my comedy events because she didn’t like laughing. I can only describe this as a form of emotional amputation.?By blocking off those creative neural pathways so closely aligned to humour and ‘having a laugh’, why would anybody want to work with such a sourpuss?! If your role is to help people to integrate back into the working environment and enhance communication with your colleagues, a giggle here and there is hugely beneficial. ?
As I have made comedy my business over the last 20 years I do have a few tricks up my sleeve and it’s more important than ever to extend the practice of humour into our working environments.?We have developed our blueprint for #FunAtWork here at Funny Women and we’re showcasing this at our very own event, called HOW TO HAVE FUN AT WORK, on Tuesday 23rd May in partnership with NatWest.?
Take a few hours out at the end of your working day to join us for some carefully curated workshops, run by some of my fave funny women from business and comedy, enjoy some discussion about how we can have fun at work, and end your early evening with some wine, nibbles and our trademark stand up comedy.?

1 年I was taken aside & told off for laughing at work in my first proper job! I left not long after.
