How can you help students build their personal brand as a leader?

Brands are established as soon as we initiate a presence on social media. Often a small post on FB, X, and LinkedIn positions your voice, persona and inevitably a "brand" in the world. Each time you are communicating with social media and one-on-one in relationships and meetings, you are establishing a way for people to identify a leadership style and connect with you. To make your brand stand out, consider sharing your process about a specific project, volunteer activity, or civic engagement opportunity you are involved with. This allows potential recruiters or fellow leaders to learn about your interests, passion, and work. Always aim to share your best work, and be authentically you about your successes and failures - it's all valuable.

Reflective exercises help students understand what are their values, and what is really important to them. It helps them to strategize their communication and general work according to the values. For the same reason, it's good to have organizational values that reflect the values of all partners. That's where the synergy happens!

When offering formal leadership opportunities to students, we must consider the full spectrum of readiness. Some students are mostly equipped, some are learning and some are beginning their leadership journeys. In each case, the matching of students and staff mentors is critical, as is frequent checking that allow students to be honest and vulnerable about their experiences.

In my experience, I will focus on developing the students' communication skills, encouraging them to be bold by helping them define their public speaking skills.

'teaching' is not just entering the classroom to teach and leave, but involves mulitiple skills and duties. A teacher is a counselor, guide, community leader, also a role model. For example, apart from teaching in the class, I have been engaging in the community and help other vulnerable young people thru SDGs and GBV campaigns to discourage FGM, early child marriage, etc. Being among the top 50 finalists of the Global Teacher Prize also makes me a good role model to students and teachers as well. They learn from me to become responsible people and I also receive advices from them for sustainability.

I am Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology and I teach to the medical, paramedical, dental and nursing students.

You may help your students doing social activities. These activities are cinsidered as theur achievements in their age for the future. Showing them your achievements may give them ideas or inspire them. You mau orientate your students and open their eyes in some direction to achieve small goals at the begining of their lives.

Certainly, showcasing achievements and skills is a pivotal step in building a personal brand as a leader. These elements serve as tangible evidence of leadership potential and impact, setting individuals apart. For students, you can guide them in highlighting achievements and skills through tools like portfolios, resumes, LinkedIn profiles, or personal websites. Crafting a compelling elevator pitch is another valuable aspect, providing a succinct and impactful introduction that encapsulates who they are, what they do, and their aspirations. This proactive approach helps individuals effectively communicate their strengths and contributions, contributing to the development of a strong personal brand.

I always guide my students on how to build a personal brand while they're still at school. It's better also to mentor these young folks to use the digital platforms wisely because without guidance, they might ruin their future very early. Showing them your success may help them build their network in an easy way.

An example I have of my experience of how I get inspired and motivated by the ideas shared by my network. Learning math and factors through neuroscience caught my interest when networks shared their views, research findings, and great hypothesis. Comments, queries, and discussions got me more networks that have a huge influence on me. A safe platform where students can explore, compare, and contrast their ideas with like minded groups is key to having a global spectrum to reach out to the world. This given, opportunities increases to gain network and hence develop influence.

Participa en eventos, únete a grupos profesionales y nunca subestimes el poder de una buena conversación. Recuerda, tu red de contactos puede ser el trampolín para tu próximo gran avance. Olvida que cada contacto vaya a ser fructíferos desde el día 1. Las relaciones sociales son complejas y las circunstancias poderosas. La paciencia en el mundo de los contactos es tu mejor herramienta.

This is a critical aspect of personal branding. Students need to understand that building and maintaining a network is important for their personal brand. This is not only on paid jobs, but also volunteering and exploring the ecosystem that they want to be in.

this is where steady research for information come in. as a teacher, finding out tool necessary for knowledge facilitation is important. by so doing you can be able to communicate with your student which helps them in network growth through technology and offcomers they should be encouraged to attend seminars and workshops.

I believe, it's imperative to make them understand the importance of having a clear vision. Also, learners should value taking feedback now and then, and taking measures to continuously improve/update. They should be introduced to the journey of other entrepreneurs, which will help them understand how to value failures and success equally.

Your brand shouldn’t pppose or contradict with your principles or goals. Your principles are your guide in life and show you the road to achieve your goals and to your brand.

Aligning the brand to their values, missions and visions must start from first identifying the brand they want to build. You can only align when you know exactly the persona you want to build.

En el rápido y a menudo exigente mundo empresarial, mantener tu esencia y autenticidad a la par que mantienes tu profesionalidad y te alineas con los valores corporativos puede ser gran un desafío y al mismo tiempo es esencial para lograr un liderazgo genuino y efectivo. Aprovecha las herramientas mencionadas en el primer apartado para reflexionar sobre lo que valoras más y cómo estos principios y fortalezas se conectan con tus metas profesionales. Esta alineación no solo te ayudará a destacar sino que también te orientará hacia decisiones más significativas y satisfactorias. Teachers can help students build their personal brand as leaders by incorporating design thinking teaching techniques. Encourage self-reflection to identify strengths and passions. Foster collaborative projects that simulate real-world challenges, allowing students to showcase their unique skills. Emphasize effective communication and problem-solving, integral components of leadership. Provide opportunities for students to showcase their achievements, fostering confidence. Ultimately, by integrating design thinking into the curriculum, teachers empower students to craft their personal brand through a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional academic skills.

OfCourse it is the teacher's responsibility to guide every student towards successful goal & career achievements and also help them align with their action.

The best leader is a failure at first. "I failed many times and today I stand before you without any fear of failure." This idea must be imposed upon by the leader himself. Nothing is better than a true and inspiring story. Those who fear failures aren't leaders. A leader has to show the path and enlighten it with ideas that no one else could see. A leader must therefore lead from the front and try inculcating the same principle everywhere.

The things that make you unique should be the base of your brand. The more true to yourself you are, the more your audience will connect with your brand.

It is also important to maintain a very unique personal brand. In other words, avoid copying and pasting from other sources. It would be much better to discuss this in the article, in my opinion. "Don't sell your personal brand for a very low price." can be added.

If you are a student, building a personal brand may seem daunting. But, I promise you: It's worth it. When you're ready to enter the workforce, a strong personal brand will help you Stand out from other candidates - Attract better job opportunities - Build a network of industry professionals So, take these actionable steps to build your personal brand as a student: 1. Define your unique value proposition - What sets you apart from other students? 2. Build a strong LinkedIn profile - This is your digital first impression, so make it count. 3. Create content that showcases your expertise - Start a blog or make videos. 4. Attend industry events - Network and learn from professionals in your desired field

One thing I have learned along the way as a leader is get involved. Walk the talk so to speak. Don’t expect others to do work that you wouldn’t attempt to do yourself. Surround yourself with those who compliment your skills and get opinions from those you lead. Work as a team.

Before anything, in my experience, is the confidence in oneself. An environment which instills confidence in a person; a mentor & guide ; can become the springboard to first having thoughts of leadership and then exploring their potential. Thoughts, word then action!

One thing people we admire as influential leaders still do is to seek opportunities to continue to become better. Join networks of leaders you want to exchange ideas with. Apply to participate in trainings, seminars and engagement sessions which help you easily meet and interact with other leaders or upcoming leaders. Connect with other leaders via social networks like LinkedIn and observe how they engage, post, tell their stories and sustain relationships. Continuous learning is key. Never feel you’ve got to the point of leadership where you no longer need to learn.

Things I have found helpful on the personal brand journey are: Build influential and relevant relationships. Get involved in cross-functional projects, both paid and unpaid. Use volunteering to strengthen or develop skills relevant to the industry you find yourself. Take on a leadership role in a relevant organization. Start a website, blog etc . Create social media handles to support proffesional growth

Encourage/Require their National and International attendance at Conferences. NAEA and INSEA are examples. The networking will be invaluable, regardless of whether they take such jobs.
