Located in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood of SE Portland, Garden Park Estates' redevelopment continues to take shape with the recent completion of Building B, which features a mix of 2-bedroom units. The existing units will undergo significant rehabilitation to become comfortable, energy-efficient apartments. Garden Park’s redesigned site will offer lower rent levels and a broader range of unit types, including 25 permanent supportive housing (PSH) units for individuals exiting homelessness and additional family-sized units. Amenities will feature a children’s play area, on-site management offices, a laundry room, community/resident services space, and an outdoor amphitheater performance space for IHI’s youth arts program, which will also be available to the surrounding neighborhood. Check out the progress taking place in Tualatin at Plambeck Gardens! Developed by Community Partners for Affordable Housing and designed by Carleton Hart Architecture PC, this new community will provide 116 affordable housing units to Tualatin. Plambeck Gardens is designed with flexibility, incorporating trauma-informed and universal design principles to help residents thrive. Each September, during National Suicide Prevention Month, the construction industry dedicates a week to raising awareness about the unique challenges that lead to suicide among workers and how we can prevent it. Together, we can save lives. The suicide rate for construction workers is 5.5 times higher than all other jobsite fatalities and more than four times higher than the general population. With over 8 million workers in the industry, it’s crucial to focus on mental health just as much as physical health. Last week, LMC team members spent a fun afternoon at Greenburg Oaks in Tigard with our friends at Community Partners for Affordable Housing We had a fantastic time handing out coats to excited kiddos as they get ready for the new school year! Thanks to the amazing generosity of our LMC family, we were able to donate over 60 brand-new coats to the youth residents of CPAH communities. #WeAreLMC

Downtown Rockwood is complete! The community’s guiding vision: ‘create an economic engine that breaks the generational cycle of poverty and builds family and community prosperity.’ The engine is now fully assembled, fueled and running. Full circle—9 years ago, after winning the RFP with developer RKm (Roy Kim, Channa Kim, Elaina Kim) our team joined a years-long intensive community engagement process instigated by the Gresham Redevelopment Commission and leaders like Josh Fuhrer and Emily Bower. One of our first events was a series of activity booths at the Rock the Block! Community Festival in 2016, held on what was then the remains of the parking lot for the demolished former Fred Meyer store that once rested on this 5.5 acre site at the geographic heart of the Rockwood neighborhood in Gresham. Last weekend, Rock the Block! took place for the first time in the fully completed public plaza designed as a living room and gathering place for Oregon’s youngest and most diverse community. Congrats to the YBA Architects staff, the staff and leadership at the City of Gresham, Gresham Redevelopment Commission, RKm Development, landscape architect Robert Foster, Colas Construction , CENTRAL BETHANY CONSTRUCTION, LLC , LMC Construction , TM Rippey Consulting Engineers , Emerio Design , MKE Engineering, POIC, MESO, the multitude of other professionals and partners who made this possible, and all the community liaisons, groups, committees and volunteers who pulled together, developed a coherent vision and stayed the course. It’s been an honor to play a role and a pleasure to build so many lasting relationships and connections within the Rockwood community. The buildings and plaza are but flexible vessels for the beating heart of this community—it’s people—to write, weave together and share their stories.
