Before hiring an editor to help your business, It's important to know if they're a good fit for the job. One way to do that is to test their skills by sending your raw files and letting the pros show off their work. I've been editing since 2019 and I learned that each client has different preferences, and a good editor knows how to ask before jumping into action. As we get bigger, This has to happen. Each department needs to be more defined. When we were small, we didn't have clear roles of who did what. We didn't have enough people to divide up the work, so everyone was involved in every bit of the business. But as we've grown, we've had to redesign our departments. So everyone knows what bits they do, although there still is an element of helping with everything. This is why we're hiring a show writer who will sit under the writing team. They're going to work real closely with the strategy and production pieces of what we do. But, as the department grows, they can teach the other writers their skills, too. Which means everyone in the team can do more. And this goes for the whole team. As we grow and add more specialised skills, everyone can learn new skills, too. And the entire team gets stronger.

“I keep applying to jobs but I never get a response.” Maybe the reason is you? Maybe you didn’t prioritise quality and attention to detail while applying? I recently put out ads for hiring a video editor and channel manager. The ads clearly said that applicants should separately email me mentioning why they think they’re a good fit for the job (and certain other details). Got hundreds of applications. Do you know how many made the effort to email? Just 3%. It is so surprising that if one has even a little attention to detail, they could get in top 3%. And attention to detail breeds a quality mindset which you then end up using everywhere, be it in your job application or your work or your day to day life. No points for guessing which candidates I ended up hiring.
