Premier Events, the Leicester-based full-service event agency, has acquired PYTCH | B Corp, a Bristol-based event production and technology company. Premier Events stocks 30,000 pieces of AV equipment, has multiple studios, and employs a team of 40 professionals across seven key event service departments. Commenting on the news, Ben McCarthy, managing director, said: “This acquisition is a major milestone for both Premier Events and PYTCH and a step forward in our mission to become an industry-leading, fully integrated, full-service event agency. UKEVENTS (Org) has published its latest report on the UK events industry for 2024. The #UKevents industry remains a powerful economic driver and cultural force, adapting and evolving in response to changing conditions and continuing to contribute significantly to the nation's success. It is great to see how UK events industry significantly contributes to the economy, with meetings and conferences alone generating £16.3 billion. Sustainability is also a growing focus within the events industry. According to the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) rankings, which are based on the number of meetings organized by international associations, the UK ranks 6th globally with 425 such meetings in 2023. The new 🇬🇧Labour budget has mixed implications for the #events industry….Here’s what #eventprofs have learned 1️⃣Increased Employer NICs = raising costs for all organiser, venue, contractor and agency employers. 2️⃣Lower business rates for hospitality and leisure properties, benefiting many exhibition venues…. But not until 26-27. 3️⃣National living Wage rises to supports all our brilliant “workers” including freelance costs. 4️⃣Extending the freeze on fuel duty helps control transport costs supporting couriers and EXPO shipments - so check for any unreasonable increases here 💡 5️⃣Alcohol duty adjustments benefits venues serving alcohol, but non-draught rates will rise- so think about balancing cost per head over a lump bar cost. 💡

EIF Meeting Notes This special meeting was arranged to discuss concerns over the number of event cancellations taking place this year, particularly in the festival sector. The following is a synopsis of the wide ranging discussion that took place. There is growing concern across the outdoor events industry over the number of events being cancelled this year, with knock-on implications for suppliers and wider business communities. The festival sector alone is reporting some 40 festivals not taking place, with other events – including point-to-points and horse trials – similarly seeing cancellations. While the continuous wet weather is partly to blame, with local authorities and farmers concerned about the damage to land, there are also other factors at play, not least the increasing move to last minute ticket bookings. Coupled with the fact that many organisers are still recovering from the consequences of the pandemic and the subsequent cost of living crisis, many smaller organisers are not in a position where they can afford to take risks. With local authorities also strapped for cash and taking the knife to some of the events they have supported in the past, there are also consequences for local communities and businesses in particular. While some say that we are now seeing rebalancing of the market following years of growth, particularly in terms of festivals, there are real concerns about the knock-on effects this could have on the supply chains that service outdoor events – the equipment suppliers, caterers etc. - many of whom are equally impacted by the liquidity implications hanging over from COVID. Although there is underlying optimism that things will get better in 2025, there is a fear that survival cutbacks this year, particularly in staffing, could result in shortages next year. There are also questions over whether the changing consumer habits this year might result in longer term changes in the way people book tickets and their expectations from events going forwards. Event organisers will need to pay more attention to weather contingencies in future. There are also worries that the weather forecasting agencies are not helping things by being over cautious in their predictions which, together with the incessant rainfall, is discouraging early bookings. Given the concerns of forecasters about getting it wrong, this is unlikely to change, which means organisers will need to think more about how they can assure people that they can attend in reasonable comfort and without getting bogged down in mud. The meeting agreed that there is no simple panacea for the difficulties the industry is facing other than the need for everyone to work together to come through this. Importantly, there needs to be trust between suppliers and event organisers which can only come if they talk to each other.
