ALL SAFE Program by QSI ??

QSI celebrates another banner year in workplace safety. In all sites operated Accident Free in 2018. QSI Safety Directors Tim, Eric, and Tedd credit this year’s successes to a renewed focus on the ALL SAFE? program and QSI’s culture of accountability. We asked Tim, Eric, and Tedd for their insights into what makes this combination work.

Tim’s eastern division focused on the effective implementation of the ALL SAFE? program resources and leadership training. These efforts not only made stronger safety leaders but provided them with the confidence and tools necessary for identifying unsafe work practices. The formal leadership training provided hands-on interaction with site safety teams. Each team learned how to best coach associates on consistency and accountability. In addition, supervisor-controlled lockout protocols were implemented throughout the division. Tim believes that the ALL SAFE? program support and continued leadership training will ensure strong frontline leaders in the future.

Tedd pointed to the central division’s work to raise the bar in safety. He credits ALL SAFE? tools as the division’s formula for success. “We used ALL SAFE? tools in the way they were intended. We maintained the right attitude, which made a huge difference in our safety culture at each site.” In addition, the division implemented safety committees at each location. This action ensured that every associate’s voice is heard. “A dedication to care and training is what brings associates, supervisors, and managers together.

Leadership and accountability is how Eric described the western division’s safety program. “Site leader buy-in is at the core of our safety culture. When our leadership believes in doing things safely and leading by example, our team members respond in a positive way.” Eric also cited his teams’ efforts to re-focus on ALL SAFE?. “Engagement is key. "By starting each shift with a safety huddle and providing drill opportunities during the shift, our associates not only observe safe practices in realtime but can internalize what they are experiencing.”

Where is QSI going in 2019?

Work is already underway to improve new associate orientation. All three directors understand the importance of a positive onboarding experience. The new orientation program will not only include classroom instruction but will include new hands-on training. QSI leadership is committed to leading the way in 2019 with a comprehensive onboarding program. According to QSI Vice President HR and Safety Lane, “Initial training not only helps ensure a safe worker, but it also helps with job satisfaction and retention.” So, power on QSI and congratulations on another excellent year in safety.
