#telcos #sustainability #strategy European telcos pledge to do better on their green initiatives As an example, DT announced that it will turn off its 2G network by June 30, 2028. The operator, along with rivals Telefonica Deutschland and Vodafone Germany, has already turned off its 3G networks and now looks to be the first to make the leap with 2G. Well to note that it's spectrum efficiency as opposed to energy savings that's the main driver for switching off 2G. https://lnkd.in/dupTpnuq?

From one city to another, Birmingham to Barcelona, delighted to find myself in the sun. Shout out to Damla ?zkan of marcus evans Group for inviting me to host the EMEA Telecoms Energy Efficiency Forum. Great keynote by Mila Rey Porto of Cellnex Telecom on how Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) can generate value for both developers and corporates. Did you know that what underpins the Internet is the telecoms infrastructure, and why it exists is because it is an enabler to address a fundamental human right - our right to communication (Article 19 of 1948 UN Convention of Human Rights). From using smoke signals in the past to everything digital. Linking back to the Hopes, Fears and Expectations workshop on the next 50 years of the Internet on its 50th anniversary in July, these are the kinds of discussions for technology providers to continue to be solution providers. #telecoms #sustainability #renewableenergy

Great to see the progress towards #netzero , thanks Steven Moore and GSMA for leading the way in the industry! #circulareconomy #circularity
Good news! We’ve turned a corner on global telco emissions - they’re down 6% since 2019 ?? This is despite mobile connections rising 7% and data traffic more than doubling over the same period ?? There are variations between regions with Europe leading the race to net zero, having halved emissions from electricity use ???? To find out more about this and our latest device sustainability efforts, please check out the press release and Mobile Net Zero 2024 Report, now in a user-friendly mobile version ?? #ClimateAction #Mobile #NetZero https://lnkd.in/e8K6DzXU

As broadband expansion programs unfold, there’s a critical question at hand: Are fiber networks alone enough to bridge the digital divide, or will a multi-tech approach prove necessary to reach remote and rural areas? I would like to hear your thoughts on the competing infrastructures of fiber, wireless, and satellite tech in achieving digital equity. #BEAD #Fibernetwork #Internetconnectivity #Starlink

What does it mean to be a world-first? The obvious answer is self-explanatory - it means achieving something unprecedented on a global scale. It is to be the first to accomplish, say, or do something that no one else has ever done. It is a title, a recognition, a celebration, a high compliment. Until recently, I hadn’t given much thought to what it takes to be considered a world-first. However, my perspective changed when I witnessed the sheer excitement and energy of my colleagues as we prepared to announce Nokia’s latest groundbreaking achievement: the world-first full duplex transmission for wireless backhaul and fronthaul. The enthusiasm and, in fact, urgency with which we approached this announcement made the team buzz in a way I’d never quite experienced before. Being a world-first is more than just a title. It embodies pride in our work, eagerness to share our innovations with the world, and the drive to offer our customers unparalleled benefits. It means infusing the essence of humanity into telecommunications, participating in a broader race, contributing to a larger narrative, and striving for success, even in the previously unknown. I am immensely proud to be part of a company that, even after so many years, still shows this much excitement and wonder in achieving the title of world-first. It’s amazing to be a part of introducing Nokia’s groundbreaking first-ever?full duplex?wireless transmission for fixed point-to-point links, a true innovation in the industry. Read Giuseppe Targia's blog to learn more. I hope you’re as excited as we are. #TheStoryinTelecom
