Fantastic interview between Tim Cook and Marques Brownlee. Marques is the quintessential tech geek who has evolved from box opening videos to car rides and now getting into genuine thought leadership. His questions were so insightful, respectful yet not sycophantic. In the interview Tim Cook discussed Apple's use of AI, emphasizing the company's longstanding integration of AI in features like EFIB and crash notifications on Apple Watch (interesting how he kept calling it Apple Intelligence and not Artificial Intelligence) However, this marks Apple's entry into generative AI. Instead of developing its own large language model (LLM), Apple is leveraging a public one - stated to be OpenAI’s ChatGPT (potentially giving users the choice of which LLM to use). Cook underscored Apple's commitment to privacy, ensuring user data is primarily processed on-device, giving users control over their data sharing preferences. Watching this week’s Apple keynote unveiling their new software updates, it was fascinating to see the spotlight on A(pple)I. Last year, AI was not even mentioned once, but now it’s a core focus?? This shift highlights a significant change in how Apple??communicates its “benefit to the user.”: they’re now emphasizing not just what their devices can do, but how they do it with AI. This reflects a deeper understanding of evolving consumer expectations and the need they feel to address them instead of trying to set them (headphone jack anyone?). Partnerships are a powerful and effective way to be able to offer external clients and internal employees products, services, and capabilities that might otherwise take an organization too much time, effort, and too many resources to build on its own. Apple just announced at WWDC that its new generation of products and operating systems will put AI in customers' hands, literally, through Apple Intelligence. Apple has been late to the AI game and chose to develop its AI capabilities for Apple Intelligence through a partnership with Open AI integrating ChatGPT into Apple operating systems across different devices. Once again, a notable difference emerges in AI presentations by tech giants. Google showcased AI as a broad possibility without concrete implementations, akin to a tech demo. In contrast, Apple unveiled AI as a tool to enhance existing products and features, set to be available for everyone this year, resembling a product demo. Not to forget the marketing brilliance of labeling it Apple Intelligence. PS: and I am a Google guy... #AI #AppleIntelligence

This was a very interesting conversation between Marques Brownlee, a YouTuber, and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. At first look you'd think that it would be just another propaganda piece by either party, but it did have one interesting snippet in it: In the future we will use our phones less. Can you believe such a thing to happen? I think it could, and I think it should. For example, although Apple's proprietary "Shortcuts" APP sucks horribly, there are a lot of other tools out there that can run processes and help people get things done even faster than before, which is one thing Mr. Cook mentions in the interview. Furthermore, as large language models such as ChatGPT are integrated into phones, this opens up the possibility of even easier automation and faster work processes. Imagine if you knew you had a phone call with your boss and you just know what will be said. Would you allow your phone + ChatGPT to answer in your voice, take notes, and say you'll follow up? ?? The future certainly looks interesting and, as Cook says in the interview, "Apple has never wanted to be first, we've wanted to be the best."
