I've found personally they are NOT that popular. All of my sons' and daughters' friends are paying higher premiums to avoid having a black-box.

1 年We all know that young(er) drivers represent the highest risk group hence the level of premium they are required to pay. This is, perhaps, the main reason that many opt for a telematics policy at the beginning but there appears to be anecdotal evidence that suggests that many abandon telematics policies as soon as their individual premium reaches a more sensible level within the non-telematics environment. However, given the clear premium benefits that exist for telematics policies at the start of their driving career it seems odd that many would wish to pay more to avoid the oversight that a telematics device provides to the insurer, driver (and, perhaps, of more interest, the driver's parent/guardian). If the parent/guardian is helping to fund the premium it seems odd that they should also go down the non-telematics route. Does the telematics/non-telematics decision say something about the individual driver's attitude towards their driving - an attitude that insurers should, perhaps, be more concerned about when non-telematics is chosen? Should road safety organisations (including "government")be doing more to promote telematics - compulsory for the first two/three years of driving for persons under a certain age, perhaps.
