I was deeply saddened to hear that the Trump administration’s layoffs of probationary employees reached the CMS Innovation Center (#CMMI), the place where I began my career, today. The Innovation Center is full of incredible public servants who have done a hell of a lot to advance the public interest. The toolbox staff hone at CMMI is translatable to a wide range of incredible paths. Teams across the health care universe have benefited from their entrepreneurial, creative, interdisciplinary skills and dedication to quality, equity, innovation, and public service. And they will continue to do so as current staff find their next adventure. To my CMMI colleagues (as well as the rest of my friends and colleagues across CMS who are making an exit by choice or by force): my team at the National Health Law Program (the Federal Advocacy Strategy Area) is hiring 1–2 Senior Attorneys or Policy Analysts. Candidates should have 8+ years of experience, a strong understanding of Medicaid and the ACA, and a deep commitment to defending access to care for low-income and underserved communities.
