We are proud to reflect on our significant role in delivering Etex’s state-of-the-art plasterboard manufacturing facility in Bristol. This ambitious project highlighted the breadth of our engineering expertise, from design and fabrication to installation and commissioning. ???????? Gypsum Building A standout element of this project was the construction of the gypsum storage building, which included: 850 tonnes of structural steelwork 265 pre-cast panels, each weighing 1.5 tonnes Fully cladded structure with lighting installation, advanced siphonic rainwater systems, and a Mansafe access system The installation required meticulous planning, with all lifting operations managed within the building footprint to avoid disrupting site access. Careful coordination with local authorities, building control, and fire control ensured compliance with British standards and regulations. Gypsum Handling System (GSH) Spanning 40 months, the GSH was engineered to efficiently transfer gypsum rock from the Port of Bristol to the calcination plant. Key features included: Enclosed gantry housing conveyors, the longest spanning 110m Bespoke traversing conveyor delivering material into the new storage building Two 30m transfer towers and a 30m bucket elevator A semi-automated reclaimer system, positioned on 140m of A120 rail installed with precise tolerances Advanced dust suppression, compressed air, and automation systems Electrical and automation systems integrated into all process equipment The project demanded critical planning to manage tight deadlines while maintaining high quality throughout. Complex lifts involved 24m sections weighing up to 25 tonnes. Through precise execution, we ensured compliance with British standards while integrating innovative solutions for efficient material handling. Reclaimed Gypsum Powder Handling We developed a seamless system to process reclaimed gypsum, integrating existing infrastructure with new designs. Highlights included: Enclosed gantries housing conveyors up to 70m long Bespoke traffic management plans for safe vehicle access Specialist screening system and overband magnet to remove ferrous metals and out-of-spec materials, protecting the calcining mill Dust suppression and automation systems for optimal performance A 30m gantry was engineered to span a gulley, avoiding major civil works. Complex lifting operations were required to install the system while maintaining the client’s business-as-usual (BAU) operations. Despite these challenges, we delivered on time without impacting ongoing activities. Conveyor C1A We replaced and upgraded the conveyor system as part of the port-to-plant connection. This 183m conveyor optimised material flow while overcoming on-site challenges, such as: Navigating HV cables, requiring innovative support redesigns Seamlessly integrating with existing infrastructure See more of what we do: www.wrighteng.co.uk #bristol #engineering #conveyor #materialhandling #gypsum #steelwork
