Attention Meta Advertisers ?? Beginning on February 24, 2025, Meta will start changing the default setting of inventory filters for in-content ads from 'Moderate' to 'Expanded'. ?? Here's what this means: In-content ads include Facebook in-stream video ads, ads on Facebook Reels and Meta Audience Network. The current inventory filter is set to 'Moderate inventory'. This means that ads will not run ‘in-content’ that is highly sensitive. The new default, 'Expanded inventory', may show your ads in all content that adheres to Meta's content monetization policies. This is a less restricted inventory, so the reach of your ads may increase. However, you should review the list of content as this may include content related to 'tragedy or conflict', 'debated social issues', 'objectionable activity', 'strong language' and more... ?? If you previously selected a specific inventory filter level for your accounts or ad sets, those settings will not be changed. I would advise checking the default inventory filter setting before publishing new ad sets and make changes if needed. #MetaAds update spotted by Bram Van der Hallen ?? • New inventory filter default 'Expanded inventory' for Meta in-content ads.

I wish this wasn't predictable. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Meta takes away the ability to protect against these placements.

The timing of this is pretty bad, since third-party fact-checking was just eliminated in the US and changes were made to content moderation that could result in more problematic content in feeds. I do not understand the motivation for moving this default.

they’ve always been a little sneaky with these settings. Anything that is “expanded” or “recommended” in paid ads is usually a red flag ?? Thanks for the update, it’ll be interesting to see how it does…

Expanded inventory means lower cost for Meta to get more audience against the budget but Media buyers will get more low-quality reach on content they would prefer to avoid more
