Paralympics has evolved and come a long way since its inception 76 years ago but it still has interesting quirks, some of which are understandable whilst others not so much: ?? Para-judo is reserved only for the visually impaired whilst para-taekwondo is for athletes with upper-limb disabilities ?? There is wheelchair rugby, tennis, table-tennis and more but not wheelchair volleyball and it is played as "sitting volleyball", where athletes have to sit on the floor and manouvre ?? Why can't athletes with intellectual impairments, compete in sports categories outside of para-athletics, para-swimming & para-table tennis ?? There is no weightlifting in the Paralympics but there is powerlifting, which is pretty much a horizontal affair, where athletes are bench-pressing ?? The basketball ball hoop is 3.05m from the ground, in both able-bodied and Para-basketball. ?? Lastly, no prostheses are allowed in para-swimming Have you come across any para-quirks, but have been shy to question or write about it? Each day I spend at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, I discover something new but what remains constant, is the competitive and fair play spirit of these living miracles called Paralympians ??

The Summer Olympics are underway in Paris. Out of curiosity, I took a look at the list of sports that are now represented. We all know about gymnastics and swimming and basketball. But did you know there are athletes competing in the following sports? badminton trampoline handball table tennis trampoline rugby sevens There are so many opportunities to win big in the areas that have little limelight. Think about all the business opportunities that yield $$$ that no one talks about. Car washes, storage facilities, vending machines, laundromats. Fashion brands, jewelry lines, real estate are all fun and exciting, but the markets are also really saturated and that makes it tougher to win. Now, if you want to go to the Olympics and play badminton, I'm sure you have to spend a ton of time training to earn your place on the Olympic team. If you want to own a carwash, it will still be work. Just offering up an opportunity to think about where the odds are in your favor. Time to dust off that BMX for some freestyle practice. Just kidding - too old for that. (googles laundromats for sale)

?? It's Olympics Eve! ?? Although the opening ceremony isn't until Friday evening, the games in Paris get under way tomorrow, with football, rugby sevens, handball, archery and shooting all getting going before we see the athletes parade around with their flags. As well as the events we've come to expect at most Olympic Games, skateboarding, climbing and surfing will again be part of the action after their first inclusion at Tokyo in 2021, while breaking has been included for the very first time. Rugby and football aside, I'm most looking forward to watching plenty of sports I don't usually get the chance to see in non-Olympic years, and there's always at least one event in which I end up becoming heavily invested. In 2012, I was engrossed by the time-keeping controversy in the women's fencing semi-finals. In 2016, I was thrilled to see rugby return to the Olympics and Fiji win their first ever medal - a gold. Last time out, it was a much stranger experience due to COVID, and it was also tricky to watch too much because of the time difference, but I did enjoy watching the two forms of karate included as a one-off event. So, what will it be this year? With a much more favourable time difference, although I'll still have plenty of work to do, I'm sure plenty of events will be vying my attention, so you'll just have to watch this space to see what piques my interest over the next two and a half weeks. Are you a real Olympics-head like me? What sports are you most looking forward to watching? #LITranslators #Sport #Translation

The Olympic program has come a long way since its inception in 1896. Croquet and tug-of-war were once Olympic sports, with croquet making its only appearance in 1900 and tug-of-war returning five more times until 1920. As the world changes, so does the Olympic program. This year, two sports make their Olympic debuts, while several others are making a comeback. Host countries can now nominate one-off events that "enhance the popularity of the Games," ensuring that the program remains fresh and exciting. Celebrate the diversity and evolution of the Olympic program, and keep cheering on your favorite athletes as they strive to be faster, higher, stronger, and yes, even floatier.???? #olympics #newsport #oldsport #staypositive #happylaw
