Europe in the Intelligent Age: From Ideas to Action The report, co-authored by McKinsey & Company and the World Economic Forum, examines #Europe’s readiness to embrace #artificialintelligence (#AI) as a transformative force across #industries and #society. It highlights AI’s potential to reshape #economicproductivity, foster #innovation, and address pressing societal challenges such as #climatechange and aging demographics. However, achieving these outcomes requires a strategic and coordinated effort to overcome key obstacles, including fragmented #digitalecosystems, insufficient investment, and uneven adoption rates among #Europeancountries. Europe’s current position in the AI landscape reflects both opportunities and challenges. While the region possesses a strong tradition of academic research, robust industrial sectors, and a commitment to ethical AI governance, it lags behind #globalleaders such as the #UnitedStates and #China in terms of commercial scaling and investment. The report underscores that #Europe must build on its strengths while addressing critical gaps in funding, talent, and #digitalinfrastructure to remain competitive. The study further explores the sector-specific #applications of AI, emphasizing its transformative potential in #healthcare, #manufacturing, and #financialservices. For example, AI-driven innovations in healthcare could enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient care, while in #manufacturing, #intelligentautomation promises to streamline operations and reduce waste. Despite these advances, the report calls attention to the #risks of #inequality in AI adoption, which could exacerbate existing regional and economic disparities if left unaddressed. As Europe positions itself for the intelligent age, the emphasis must be on scaling AI-driven solutions that prioritize societal impact while ensuring competitiveness on a global scale. The success of this endeavor will define Europe’s economic resilience and its capacity to lead in an era where intelligence and innovation drive progress. The report ultimately underscores that Europe’s future lies in its ability to act collectively, embedding AI at the heart of its economic and social strategy while upholding values of equity, trust, and sustainability. ?n summary, this report serves as a clarion call for Europe to move decisively from conceptual discussions to concrete actions in the AI domain. The path forward demands a holistic approach that aligns technological innovation with ethical considerations and inclusive growth. Europe’s ability to harness AI’s full potential hinges on fostering collaboration among governments, businesses, and academia to create a unified digital ecosystem. Addressing barriers such as funding gaps, talent shortages, and regulatory fragmentation will be pivotal to this effort.

We had a great Innosight evening of insights and networking at the London Stock Exchange, discussing how to lead into the Age of AI. Five things I took away: 1?? ???????????????? ???????? ???? – AI is the enabler, not the headline. Shift from “AI-first” to “outcomes-first.” 2?? ???????????????????? ?????????????? ???????????????? – Too much risk focus kills momentum; too little invites chaos. AI risk and practitioner groups must co-create and co-own policy. 3?? ???????? ???????????? ???????????? – The best AI won’t fix bad data. Prioritize data quality over model sophistication. 4?? ???????????????????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ?????????????????? – Unfocused curiosity is wasted energy. Make experiential learning mandatory, structure it, feed it, and turn curiosity into action. 5?? ???? ?????????????? ?????????????? ???????????? – It’s not plug-and-play. Companies must simplify, automate, and eliminate process to unlock value – this is as much a cultural challenge as a technological challenge. Huge thanks to: Andrew Rochester Group Head of AI, IAG Claire Calmejane – AI Board Member, Investor & Advisor, CAILEG Laia Collazos – Chief Data & Analytics Officer, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Shweta Vyas – Chief Strategy Officer, RELX Emily Prince – Group Head of Analytics, LSEG Paul Donegan – Group Digital Innovation Director, Rentokil Initial Thank you to everyone who took time out to join us. Special thanks to Paul Fincham and Sandra Macleod FIPR, CCIM for your partnership in making this happen. #AI #Leadership #Innovation #Collaboration #InnosightEvents

?? AI at an Inflection Point: Hope, Fear, and the Urgent Need for Action Honored to have delivered a keynote address and participated in a panel discussion at the for AI for Developing Countries Forum (#AIFOD) at the United Nations Office at Geneva United Nations, Geneva. The discussions have been rich, insightful, and deeply thought-provoking—a testament to the diverse perspectives shaping the future of AI. One thought that resonated deeply with other thought leaders: Societal adoption of disruptive technologies has always swung like a pendulum between Hope and Fear. ? Hope—that AI will serve as a pivot for human civilization, propelling us towards new frontiers of innovation and progress. ? Fear—that AI will widen the digital divide, deepen geopolitical power struggles, and fundamentally reshape global order. But amidst these contrasting narratives, one thing is clear: AI is rewriting the rules of business. ? Customer expectations are evolving. ? Core competencies are shifting. ? Information management is now a critical success factor. ? New business models are redefining competitive strategy. Leaders today must drive AI adoption across all areas of business—not just for efficiency but to build transient advantages in an era of permissionless, tech-driven organizations. ?? This calls for an urgent global focus on infrastructure, capability, and skills development across sectors. To harness AI’s full potential, we must ensure: ?? AI-ready infrastructure to support innovation at scale. ?? A workforce equipped with AI skills to drive meaningful adoption. ?? Cross-sector collaboration to fuel AI-driven transformation and keep businesses ahead of the curve. The time to act is now. AI is not just a tool—it is a catalyst for fundamental shifts in the way we work, live, and compete. Let’s shape its trajectory responsibly, inclusively, and with purpose. Great that the World Economic Forum have taken on the challenge to look at how AI is transforming industries. It’s always fun to work with the forum tackling those huge problems that require cross industry collaboration and big picture strategic thinking. Have a read of the “Al in Action - Beyond Experimentation to Transform Industry” whitepaper for some pointers of how organizations can develop impactful AI adoption. So happy that Merck Group has been used as a reference case study for “Using AI to accelerate scientific progress”. We showcase an example of how AI has furthered our ability to develop advanced materials for the semiconductor industry. Big kudos to the entire team in Merck Electronics who are turbo charging the use of AI to make amazing things happen in the semiconductor and broader electronics industry. #AI #Collaboration #WEF25 #innovation #AdvancingDigitalLiving
