Been following Dario Amodei since about 8 years when I simultaneously heard about him via 80000 hours podcast when I was contemplating my career choices to better understand how to make the most of my cumulative 80000 working hours to maximize the impact I aspire to have. I also heard about him through someone at Stanford/ Singularity /EA communities and was pretty impressed to see the focus on AI safety. At that time AGI felt like a fancy sci-fi possibility. But I was certain it would be a General Purpose Technology very useful in many high impact domains, Jeremy Howard reinforced this idea in the fastai course that I took at that time. Dario Amodei is such a well calibrated and visionary technologist and its always great to get a glimpse into his thinking. Some key takeaways: * Virtual collaborator - Next phase of models will be trained for outcomes using reinforcement learning rather than text responses. I think chat interfaces would look like toy interfaces in the not so distant future. Computer use is the first step in this vision, but these models would also be reflective and can "do" stuff for you. * Anthropic revenue went 10x in the past year, its in single digit billions now. * They are looking at a few 100K GPUs in 2025 and possibly millions(!) by 2026. * He thinks with reasonable certainty, we will have AI systems that can do anything better than any human by 2027(!) or possibly sooner. * Everybody in the AI industry has a responsibility to talk about the gravity of the situation and be serious about it. In the long run, hopefully we all live in a world of abundance, but in the short term, power is going to be very imbalanced, and we need to prepare for it. * There is a tug of war between countries trying to keep the lead in AI vs having time for safety considerations. #Davos #Davos25 #AGI #superintelligence #futureofwork

Speculation heated up today around the country with DeepSeek in the hot seat! A wake up call to the US. Are their unverified claims too good to be true with data privacy concerns and lack of regulatory compliance? Cheaper to build and cheaper to run?
