I was jobless even after graduating from IIT Roorkee. When I got into IIT Roorkee. I thought life was set and the last thing I would have to worry about was “Getting a Job”. I never thought I would need a plan B. This is back in 2015. I was in the last year of college. Most of my friends got placed. I graduated, I didn't land the job I had hoped for. As weeks turned into months, the situation grew increasingly grave. The realisation that I had no immediate career prospects led to a prolonged six-month stay at the college hostel, a period of extreme uncertainty about my future. This was not only a personal struggle but one that deeply affected my family as well. Their disappointment and concern added a lot to my own frustration. I used to wake up every morning, open Linkedin, add people and apply for jobs. But there was no progress. I was living between job applications and rejection mails. That is when I decided to “pivot my career” and started looking for product design & UI/ UX roles. Asked for help from my seniors and friends. Made a goal to upskill myself. Improved my communication skills and built a good network within the campus. And I finally landed a job as a UX Designer at Eros Labs. I still remember that day. It was extremely emotional. I felt a deep, quiet validation that tough times don't last, but tough people do. Looking back, I did not have a Plan B back then. I had to make one. No matter how certain your career path may seem, it's crucial to have a viable Plan B. I share this advice not just as a suggestion, but as a strategy that I learned the hard way. Also while writing this post, I found out that “Plan B” is the name of an emergency contraceptive pill ?? Okay don’t re-read the post now after having this context.
