2025 is going to be the biggest year yet for women’s sports. Don’t believe me? It’s only January 2nd & we already have Denver paying $110M to be the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)’s 16th franchise. For context, it’s the biggest expansion fee in the history of U.S. women’s sports. BIG things ahead.
NWSL and women's soccer in the US would be wise to do what MLS and the men's game are not: coming together and forming a pyramid with promotion and relegation based on merit. Now is the perfect time: Unite the pyramid, promote two teams in 26, then 2 more in 28 to get to 20 teams, with full promotion and relegation kicking in come 2030.
Best news ever!
It’s amazing to see such a high expansion fee showing the growth of women's sports! What other cities do you think could be next to invest in women's leagues?
It's amazing to see. So excited to see what this year brings for women's sports! So happy to be witnessing this growth.
