This marks a significant improvement compared to June 2020's peak. ? 2,100 more full-time jobs were added last month, helping to boost overall employment. While part-time positions dipped by 1,700, there was still a net increase of 400 jobs in August. Case Update: Judgment on Teacher's Remuneration ?? I am thrilled to share a significant legal victory for my client in the Rajasthan High Court Jodhpur under the esteemed guidance of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Arun Monga. In this case, we challenged the inaction of the respondents in not providing the revised fixed remuneration to my client, a School Lecturer (English), in accordance with the 2017 Rules. Despite her diligent service, she was paid less due to her earlier choice to continue with her last drawn salary, which was less beneficial under the new rules. The court's decision reaffirmed the principles of fairness and employee welfare, acknowledging the need for revised remuneration based on the updated rules. This judgment ensures that public servants are not penalized for their past decisions when new, beneficial rules are introduced. Key Points: The court upheld the interpretation of Rule 24 of the Rajasthan Service Rules, 1951, favoring employees' rights to opt for the most beneficial pay scale. The respondents have been ordered to revise and pay the arrears of salary within two months. This case sets a precedent for future disputes regarding employee remuneration during probation periods and underscores the importance of adaptable and fair employment practices. As someone deeply involved in employment linkage and workforce development, I’ve observed that the current minimum wage rates are simply too low to attract or retain skilled candidates. Candidates often refuse jobs offering just the minimum wage, and even when motivated to join, they leave within a couple of months. This creates a significant challenge for industries struggling with high attrition and low retention rates. To address this, we need a holistic approach where wages align with living standards and skill levels. It’s not just about filling job vacancies but building a sustainable, motivated, and skilled workforce that benefits everyone—employees, employers, and the economy. This is a topic that demands collaboration between industries, policymakers, and training organizations. The Minister of State for Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani has stated that 6 million new job cards have been issued under MGNREGS Now this can only be interpreted in two ways; a) There were legitimate people who were eligible but never identified and given a card OR b) each year more and more people are slipping into poverty and requiring to demand on MGNREGS. Neither paints a great picture of it. This is not a political party issue but a structural, institutional, and governance issue. For some surprising reason people think its a great thing when more people fall under a scheme like NREGS each year. NREGS is a safety net, if its number is increasing it means that more people are slipping. We need to identify the root causes and ensure that people don't spend their entire lives depended on NREGS. The different between a welfare and a populist scheme in my humble opinion, is that a welfare scheme is structured in a way to ensure that eventually individuals would no longer need the benefits of the said scheme some day. A populist scheme is structured in a way to keep people trapped in a level of poverty to make them dependent on the Government.
