Ever since my engineering degree in Electronics and communication at Government College Of Engineering Kannur, I have been interested in business and the various aspects that govern it. My MBA degree from Institute Of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad helped me with all the knowledge and connections needed to make my way into the corporate world. My first job as a Research analyst at a consulting firm gave me the foundation to build my career and taught me much about corporate culture. After two years at the firm, I got my first break into a Big4 audit firm which was a dream job for many. The workplace was filled with amazingly talented people who walked around with an aura of grace and expertise. I found that the environment around you matters a lot more than you think as the influence of being around great people lifts you as well. Another 2 years and then came a big event in my personal life (marriage) and I decided to relocate to Bangalore where I got another break into a Big4 audit firm. The excitement of being in a client-facing role brought amazing benefits and challenges that I overcame with pride. My technology background combined my expertise with data analytics. VBA coding and creation of Alteryx workflows for automation helped me work on all client engagements with speed and agility. This helped me become the top performer for 3 consecutive years and got me a couple of promotions to quickly find myself in a team leader position. The satisfaction of completing challenging assignments is something that I cherish and thrive on. There is no substitute for hard work combined with a big appetite for learning. In my current role as Forensic manager, I had the best opportunity to build a team from scratch. I found that the journey of hiring and building amazingly talented team members is a blissful experience that enriches you personally and professionally. I recently applied for a data analytics position at PwC and wanted to share my experience with the process. Despite having over six years of extensive experience in the data domain and proficiency with various tools and technologies, my application was rejected at the initial screening stage. The reason given was my educational background—specifically, my Bachelor's degree in Business Management, as they were seeking candidates with a B.Tech degree. While I respect PwC's criteria, I believe that in today's era, skills and experience should hold significant weight in the hiring process. My journey in the data analytics field has equipped me with practical knowledge and a proven track record of delivering impactful results, which I hoped would be recognized. It's disheartening to see that educational qualifications are still given more importance than practical experience and skill sets. I believe that this approach overlooks many capable and talented individuals who have acquired their expertise through hands-on experience. PwC must reconsider and update their selection criteria, as they are currently using outdated methods to screen candidates. This experience has only strengthened my resolve to continue growing and excelling in the data domain. For those in similar situations, remember that persistence and continuous learning are key.
