Create VPI-Enabled Second-Gen Managed Package Versions! This preview allows you to test new 2GP functionality directly in subscriber sandboxes. By validating this functionality with your subscribers, you’ll help ensure a seamless rollout when it becomes widely available. ?? Interested? ISV/OEM Partners with an active 2GP solution that: Has one or more global classes (required) Has deprecated global classes/methods (recommended) Can test a VPI-enabled 2GP in a subscriber sandbox/scratch org (required) ? Must have access to Slack, as enablement and support for this preview will be provided via Slack. Get involved and shape the future of 2GP functionality! Let’s make sure our packages are as resilient and dependable as possible. What’s This All About? Global Apex in managed packages can evolve over time, and when managed-global classes, interfaces, or methods are deprecated, it can lead to breaking changes for subscriber classes that depend on them. The new 2GP functionality, called VPI (Version Provider Information), allows subscribers to “pin” a class to a specific version of a managed package. This prevents breaking changes by emulating previous versions of classes for subscriber code relying on old references. What’s New? This functionality has always been available in 1GP. However, before Winter ’25, subscribers couldn’t pin dependencies against anything other than the most recent version of a 2GP. One pricing model I will NEVER understand is the "minimum X seats" to access a certain package/feature. There have been so many times where I would have happily upgraded to the next tier package, but because of that barrier of minimum users, I end up moving to another vendor. From a buyer's perspective, this puts so much friction on a simple upgrade and also leaves a bad taste, knowing that I am spending money on extra licenses. In instances where I've taken the plunge and paid for extra licenses, it's often resulted in me completely churning off. With SaaS becoming more competitive and team sizes getting smaller, is this an outdated model or am I missing something?
