Today, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. Kannan Rangaramanujam from John Hopkins University School of Medicine for a thought-provoking seminar on "Development and Translation of Cell-Targeted Systemic Nanomedicines." Dr. Kannan began by addressing a crucial challenge in brain tumor and brain disorders —the difficulty of crossing the blood-brain barrier—and highlighted why most drugs fail in this context. He delved into the critical role of glial cells and neuroinflammation in CNS disorders, sharing how his team targets glial cell responses to protect neurons from degeneration. He spoke about his innovative drug delivery platform: a 'neutral' hydroxyl dendrimer. He shared compelling animal model data showing how dendrimer-drug conjugates effectively reach target cells, opening doors to next-generation therapies. Dr. Kannan concluded by discussing plans to advance targeted therapies in India for heart disease, obesity, inflammatory disorders, brain disorders, and more. The session ended with an engaging Q&A, reflecting the audience’s keen interest in the topic. The session was followed by interactions with our startups and THSTI fellows currently visiting Venture Center. We are grateful to Dr. Kannan for his time, insights, and inspiring discussions. It was truly a privilege to learn from his expertise and vision. Enjoyed the visit to the NCL venture center and was happy to see a lot of youthful energy - bodes well for Indian biotech entrepreneurship! Thanks Dr. Premnath, Bioincubation center colleagues, and Dr. Jayant for enabling the visit!
It must have been a great discussion on such an interesting topic. And it is so good to see you both in the same picture; Kannan Rangaramanujam and Jayant Khandare. It brings back memories??
Sheer poetry!

3 个月Loved the talk about breakthrough drug delivery systems being advanced by Prof Kannan Rangaramanujam 's research group and startups. Prof Kannan peppered his talk by several little light hearted comments that kept the audience chuckling. Fascinating results in drug delivery across the blood brain barrier or for AMD.
