I once had to write an apology to HR for taking a one-hour leave. Early in my career, I left work for an hour to support a friend in need. I informed my manager beforehand. It was a genuine reason, no lies. But when I returned, I was openly humiliated. My manager openly shamed me and demanded a written apology with a promise it wouldn’t happen again. I refused to work with someone like that. Good managers - don’t demand permission for emergencies. - talk to their team before escalating issues. Empathy costs nothing. This!!!!!!!!! I was so nervous to start a position where my role wasn’t “social worker” or “case manager”, but even in the sales world I find myself getting to flex my social work muscles daily! 1. I’m identifying the needs of various communities and going directly to where those communities are attempting to access mental health treatment. 2. I’m educating providers and communities about life changing mental health resources 3. I’m working collaboratively with agencies all over the state of Texas to make sure that we are effective in meeting the mental health needs of patients and using resources efficiently 4. I’m teaching providers and patients how to jump through the never ending insurance hoops to make sure they can access care AFFORDABLY! Social workers, sales is not a dirty word like I used to think. Find a program or product you believe in and APPLY! The sales world will only become better for having your contributions.

Established by the Māori Anglican Church in the late 20th century, Te Whare Ruruhau was created as a response to a community need for a kaupapa Māori based social services provider to support whānau struggling with adversity. ? As a kaupapa Māori social service provider, the organisation has developed an Indigenous social services practice model, ‘te kawa o te marae,’ to embed tikanga Māori as a solution for whānau to establish pathways to wholeness and wellbeing. The Trust has been contracted to the government for many years, to provide professional counselling, programmes, and social work services to the communities of Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and in recent years that has extended to Kaitaia – Te Hiku o te Ika. We have increasing coverage across Tāmaki and Te Tai Tokerau, including the mid-north, and the effectiveness of our services means we are in a growth phase. ?
