Two of our consultants are helping our partner build a stronger foundation for empowering marginalized communities in Odisha. Meet our partner Youth for Social Development (YSD)- a development org working to improve the lives of underprivileged communities in Odisha. YSD focuses on marginalized groups and works to empower them through advocacy, training, and social protection programs. To date, they have impacted 12,000+ individuals, allowing them to access a better quality of life. As their impact grows, YSD needs a streamlined data management system for their 12 Community Learning and Support Centers (CLSCs). These centers play an important role in delivering education and community programs, but managing data efficiently has become a challenge. That’s where we come in! Our pro bono consultants, Abhishek Sehgal (a Senior Risk Analyst with 3+ years of experience) and Dr. Greeshma Sharma (a Project Consultant with 12+ years of experience) are leading this project. They’re designing a system to manage student and community data effectively, making sure that YSD can monitor their impact and scale their efforts more effectively. We've spent the last #15YearsOfSattva researching, analysing, and building knowledge databases to aid and accelerate impact. The Bharat East report explores the performance of the eastern states — #Bihar, #Jharkhand, #Odisha, and #WestBengal — using data points from the #NFHSIV, #NFHSV, and #MissionAntyodaya resources. It highlights that while being home to only 22% of the population, these four states account for more than 40% of the Aspirational Districts identified by NITI Aayog. Despite this large need, the states jointly received 6% of India's total CSR funds from 2014-2021. Odisha receives 75% of the East's share of the #DistrictMineralFund, while West Bengal and Bihar are among the bottom five recipients of #DMF allocations in the country. Aajeevika Adhikar Sangathans (AASs) are the backbone and primary unit of DEHAT India's commitment to promoting sustainable livelihoods and participatory governance in the Mihinpurwa Block of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. AAS comprises twenty or more families, with a strong emphasis on women's representation. These groups serve as platforms for community members to come together, discuss issues, and collectively work towards solutions. Regular meetings of AAS and Cluster meetings of their leaders are held to discuss issues the community is facing. These meetings serve as a platform for community members to voice their concerns and collaborate on solutions. The primary objective of AAS is to promote participatory governance by ensuring that every individual has access to their rights. They also prioritize the promotion of natural farming and other sustainable livelihood options within the community. Two and a half decades ago, when I started my corporate journey, my first job often found me volunteering to find structural solutions to day-to-day business challenges. It wasn’t because I fully understood the impact I could make, but because I was unwilling to accept the status quo and firmly believed there had to be a better way of doing business. That was when, by default, my career in driving 'business transformation’ began! As I progressed in my career, I found purpose and happiness in continuously learning, evolving, and driving transformation that benefited not only businesses but also communities and the environment. Led by passion, I had the good fortune of leading ESG and CSR at large MNCs in India. However, I was hungry for more scale and impact, and I would like to thank The/Nudge Institute and the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI, for giving me the platform to drive transformation at scale to help marginalized and vulnerable communities in India. Day -02 Government H.S.S Nipaniya Village, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Today, I conducted a workshop on real data collection at ground level. Students were very excited to become part of the data collection team. The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in India aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India. However, several factors can lead to delays in its implementation: 1. Infrastructure Challenges: ??- Inadequate existing water supply infrastructure. ??- Difficult terrain and remote locations complicating construction and logistics. ??- Lack of proper maintenance and operation of existing systems. 2. Resource Availability: ??- Scarcity of water sources, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. ??- Limited availability of construction materials and equipment. ??- Inadequate skilled labor force for construction and maintenance. 3. Financial Constraints: ??- Delays in the allocation and disbursement of funds. ??- Cost overruns due to inflation and unexpected expenses. ??- Inefficient utilization of allocated funds. 4. Administrative and Governance Issues: ??- Bureaucratic red tape slowing down project approvals and implementations. ??- Coordination challenges between different government departments and agencies. ??- Delays in decision-making processes at various levels of government. 5. Community Participation: ??- Lack of awareness and engagement among local communities. ??- Resistance from local populations due to socio-cultural factors. ??- Issues in ensuring community ownership and participation in maintenance. 6. Environmental and Climatic Factors: ??- Impact of climate change leading to variability in water availability. ??- Natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and earthquakes disrupting project timelines. ??- Environmental clearances and impact assessments causing delays. 7.
