Yesterday, the Innovation Zero forum has bring some focus on Food and Agriculture. In the panel I had the privilege to contribute we brought some perspectives on the importance of soil heath. Among the key take aways, I’d like to share the following: * the critical importance to consider TIME in the equation: cycles in agriculture are long and last accross generations. And heathy soils take time to be developed and damages take long time to recover * “one size does not fits all” ! The diversity of soils, climatic conditions, crop rotations in Europe and accross the globe, is forcing us to be very GRANULAR. Every single situation has to be understood. And here DIGITAL and SKILLS development will be essentials * the CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION will be a growing challenge for the farmers * INNOVATION with digital among the main pilars will be essential to overcome these challenges and create robust & efficient projects * supporting the GROWERS in this transition shall be a driver for all of us, from Farm to Fork To be successful on the long run in this transition we must be RATIONAL, with an holistic approche, based on science, supported by digital. #soilhealth, #climatechangeadaptation, #carbonfarming, #netzero, #digitalfarming

Maximum productivity might be costing us the Earth. Literally. In our relentless pursuit of higher yields, soil health is silently paying the price. Beneath the surface, a crisis unfolds. The hidden costs? They're monumental. Intensive farming practices, aimed at squeezing every possible ounce of productivity from our lands, are depleting soil nutrients and function at an alarming rate. This isn't just about lower crop yields in the future. It's about jeopardising food security, biodiversity, and even our climate. Consider this: healthy soil is not just about growing crops. It's a living ecosystem that filters water, supports biodiversity, and regulates the climate. By prioritising immediate gains over soil health, we're not only risking future food security but also contributing to broader environmental crises. Yet, the true expense doesn't appear on balance sheets, at least not instantly. It's inscribed on the land itself. The solution? A paradigm shift. We must embrace sustainable farming practices that replenish the soil. It's time to invest in the future, not just in the present yield.
