It is saddening to hear about the incident at EY India. For us, at the outside, it appears justified to blame the firm and their PR attempts only add salt to the wound. However, I think we all recognize that consulting was never a profession known for its easy going, laid back work environment. The deal usually is, you work long hours = you get amazing pay + you learn a lot of transferable skills. If you add a bit of insecurity to the mix, the consultant tries their best to maintain their pay and skill-learn-scope for as long as possible. And, this is the source of the stress. It could happen anywhere! I think it's a wake up call, for us to introspect on why we work, why do we accumulate stress, and how to vent it out.

CA Induction Updates: Today, I will summarize the things I have done this week: 1. Accomplishing KPMG US Career Analyst Certification. 2. Started revision of Tax, Audit, Accounting and Law subjects. 3. Started mobilizing my LinkedIn Profile. 4. Sent my resume to different people for review and then got the resume updated. Will post the next update soon as I go through this hard yet rewarding journey of Articleship Induction.

3rd of January marked my last day at KPMG India. . . With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to the most profound, and special experience of my life at the firm. I still remember how excited I was, and how proud they all were. A shortlist meant the world to me, but little did I know the journey would not be easy. It had big lessons, sleepless nights, self-doubt, more self-doubt, fear, and an insecure future. Still, at KPMG, I discovered a nurturing ecosystem of brilliant minds, compassionate hearts, and inspiring leaders who made even these challenging days feel rewarding. Over the past 1.5 years, I have supported their due Diligence Teams and worked closely on multiple due diligence assignments for clients worldwide. Having experienced tremendous learning and worked in highly collaborative teams at the firm, I realized how big firms function and what adds value to the process in the end. I met the most beautiful people, both inside and out, here. I found companions in colleagues, and they made me a close friend—a friend who sees their bright light and cheers on them always. As I move on from here, I do so with a profound appreciation for the journey at KPMG—a place that has been a cornerstone in my career. Coming from a normal-ish city in Punjab and shifting to Delhi for college was the first thing happening in my life, and as the years rolled by, I realized that "all my cages were mental". This is for that 15-year-old Jashan who thought not becoming a heart surgeon was the end of the world. Here is to more victories, bold steps, and a fearless journey. This is a serious issue, reminding us how often we lose sight of our values and work ethics while chasing targets. Some of us are lucky to have supportive managers, but not everyone has that. Many people stay silent out of fear of losing their jobs, and in doing so, we often blur the line between our personal and professional lives. From KPMG India to Building My Own Practice in Nepal During my tenure at KPMG India, I had a fast-growing career and was incredibly happy with the work culture and systems. One memorable assignment involved leading an audit of an organization based in Nepal. This opportunity provided me with valuable exposure to how things worked in Nepal at the time. During this assignment, I reconnected with friends who had left India to work in Nepal. They encouraged me to join them and work together. Knowing I wouldn't be out of a job for even a single day, we started discussing how we could collaborate, drafting MOUs, SOPs, and more. Motivated by the idea of serving my nation and utilizing the skills I had developed over 8 years in India, I decided to resign from KPMG and return to Nepal. My decision was warmly welcomed by my family and my wife. I knew things would be different – the numbers wouldn't be as big, the environment wouldn't be as system-controlled, and the remuneration wouldn't be the same. But I prioritized being close to my family and contributing to my country. It has now been over 8 years since I made that decision. The journey has had its share of hardships and difficulties, but it has also brought immense happiness, contentment, and satisfaction. Occasionally, I wonder about the heights I could have reached had I stayed with KPMG in India. However, building my own practice in Nepal has been equally challenging and rewarding. I am proud of the path I chose. Serving my nation and being close to my family has made all the challenges worthwhile. Good Opportunity

It's been 9 years today, and the feeling is still surreal ? It was 20th August 2015, at 1:30 am, when an email popped up on my phone. To my surprise it was from KPMG India, congratulating me on being offered the role of a Staff Accountant. I yelled in joy, woke up my parents, and told them that I had finally made it to the BIG 4. For a person like me, I didn't have references that could help me get a direct entry. Coming from a middle-class family, we believed in working hard and making achieving your success, by yourself. I just had a goal to get into a BIG 4 and I gave in my very best. I gave my partner rounds in PWC and KPMG, Deloitte didn't have many vacancies, and EY was supposedly considered to have strict study leave policies back then. I didn't hear anything from PWC and my last hope was KPMG. Though I have given interviews at large and mid-sized firms, as a young professional, you want to get into the best! It's all about the grit, and the desperation with which you approach your goals. If you are motivated enough and want to achieve your goals anyhow, you eventually work and prepare for it to make things happen. And I am not a special case, every person is capable enough to make things happen if the person has the right mindset and is willing to give it all to achieve the set goals!
