It has become a struggle to find remote work after maternity break in the advertising industry, no support for the child. It seems that my experience of 7 years in the advertising industry as a copywriter/ brand manager has gone to waste. Absolutely agree with this! Social Media Managers already wear so many hats—managing content, engaging communities, analyzing performance—it’s a full-time effort. But then you see job descriptions piling on SEO strategies, ad management, graphic design, and a dozen other unrelated tasks. It’s like they’re looking for a one-person army. Honestly, we’re humans, not machines. Respect the role, set realistic expectations, and let’s stop burning people out with impossible job descriptions. Here’s to giving Social Media Managers the credit they deserve.

I just came across another job post titled "Social Media Manager" that started off so well: ? Social Media Management ? Community Engagement ? Analytics & Reporting I was intrigued. I thought, "Wow, finally a company that gets it!" But then… BAM! They hit me with:?? ? Plan and execute SEO strategies ? Manage Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and email campaigns ? Design graphics, edit videos, and maybe bake some cookies too!??? Let me get this straight: you want a Social Media Manager, a Digital Marketer, an SEO Specialist, a Graphic Designer, AND a personal assistant… in ONE person.?? Why not just ask them to water the office plants ?? and fix the printer ???while you're at it? Dear hiring managers, please remember: A jack of all trades is a tired employee???? running on caffeine and existential dread. Let’s keep job roles realistic. Social Media Managers are amazing, but we’re not superheroes (although some days, it feels like we need to be). From Social Media Manager to the “Errand Girl” I got hired as a Social Media Manager, excited to grow, strategize, and bring real value to the team. But along the way, my role became… a little different. Suddenly, I found myself also wearing the hat of: ? Graphic Designer ? Project Manager ? SEO Specialist ? Sales Representative …and more. It felt like everyone on the team began delegating their tasks to me, and before long, I was creating spreadsheets, managing workflows, and running errands:things that weren’t part of my job description,all for a little pay. Don’t get me wrong: being flexible and supporting your team is valuable and often necessary. But there’s a point where it’s important to remember that each person on a team has a role for a reason. When we start doing work that others are paid for, it can blur boundaries and shift responsibilities in a way that’s unfair to the team dynamic. We’re moving to Louisville, KY! We still love so much about NYC, but we’re ready for bigger, more affordable housing with less traffic, horn blaring, and sidewalk dog poop. With my sister and her crew living down the street, we’re looking forward to family time, clean air, and of course all the bourbon. Now the not-so-great news: Unfortunately, I’ve been informed I can’t keep my NYC metro-based job.
