As part of the?Saamuhika Shakti, Hasiru Dala, in collaboration with?Sparsha Trust,?Sambhav Foundation?and?WaterAid India, is embarking on a transformative journey in Muneshwara Nagar and Bhavani Nagar through a comprehensive Social Mapping Exercise. This initiative allows us to engage with local residents, capturing the essence of their neighborhoods by identifying settlement patterns, social infrastructure, and demographics. By gathering this vital information, we are building a robust database that will empower Saamuhika Shakti partners to tailor interventions specifically to the needs of informal waste pickers, ensuring that no household is left behind. Our goal is clear: to enable secure, dignified, and equitable access to all outcomes for informal waste pickers by driving targeted, data-driven actions that empower entire communities. Together, we’re not just mapping places—we’re charting a future filled with empowerment, inclusion, and hope!

This financial year, we're focusing on effectively implementing subsector initiatives to create millions of livelihoods and enhance incomes for SHG members. Recently, we organized a two-day orientation program for Maharashtra SRLM staff in collaboration with partners like Industree Foundation, IDH, Jlajeevika, and Humble Bee. Bringing together ecosystem players is crucial for ensuring that SRLMs can successfully roll out subsector activities. The workshop was instrumental in understanding the specific needs of SRLMs, equipping them with the insights and tools necessary to drive impactful change. Following are the Key Takeaways: Collaboration is Key: Engaging diverse partners enhances resource sharing and innovation. Understanding subsectors: Thorough understanding of the subsector in a particular block / cluster is critical. We are working on identifying the gaps and coming up with strategies to overcome the gaps. Capacity Building: Providing SRLMs with the right tools and training empowers them to drive impactful change. Sustainable Impact: Focusing on long-term strategies ensures that livelihoods are not just created but also maintained.

Often I have encountered an intrinsic question from practitioners during my association with National Rural Livelihood Mission, specially from those who are engaged in Institutional Development role and engulfed in handholding, nurturing community led initiatives. What is difference between Cluster Level Federation ( CLF), the term coined since inception of NRLM, Model Cluster Level Federation ( MCLF), flourished since Pandemic period and now MCLF Immersion Site. Are they really different or they are same structures managed owned and driven by Community for collective action with an objective to promote mutual growth and sustainable benefits. Overall, all institutions play a crucial role in promoting replication and scaling up of successful practices, contributing to the broader objectives of poverty alleviation and rural development. Then how are they different in terms of strategy, system, process, procedures and deliverables. lets unfold this. #UPGraduation2024: Congratulations, Moipoti Ruth Makgalemane, on your remarkable achievement! Your dedication and hard work have culminated in a well-deserved master's degree with Cum Laude honours from UP. Makgalemane’s thesis, focusing on "Respiratory conditions and health symptoms associated with air pollution amongst children aged six years and below at Melusi Informal Settlement in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, South Africa," sheds light on crucial environmental health challenges facing our communities. Key findings from Makgalemane's thesis: ??? Air pollution poses a greater threat to life expectancy than smoking, HIV, or war. ??? Air pollution contributed to the spread of Covid-19. ??? Death rates from air pollution are highest in low-to-middle-income countries. ??? At least 1 in 10 people die from air pollution-related diseases. ??? There are 227 informal settlements in the City of Tshwane alone, highlighting the widespread impact of air pollution on vulnerable communities. #UniversityOfPretoria #ProudlyUP #HelloTuksAlumni #TheFinishLineIsYours

I was honored to participate in the first panel discussion at this year's FANRPAN Regional Multi-sectoral Policy Dialogue in Malawi, just immediately after the official opening ceremony. The panel focused on agriculture and food systems transformation, and I was invited to share AGRA's perspective on this issue. At AGRA, we envision food systems transformation as a comprehensive and sustainable change in the entire food value chain - from production, processing to consumption to increase productivity and income for smallholder farmers, strengthen resilience, foster inclusive markets, promote sustainable farming practices, and support government in creating an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive. I emphasized the importance of closely following the mega trends and priorities shaping Africa's food systems, including demographic, economic, environmental, and social trends. At the helm of it is the youth population bulge. This can be be achieved if there close and effective collaboration with government, development partners, private sector, and civil society. The conference offered valuable insights and learning opportunities. I look forward to applying these lessons to drive the positive change that we desire to achieve in Malawi.
