?? Hey connections! ??
I am thrilled to share that our team, Fake_Coders, comprising Aryan Shah Siddharth Joshi and Prajjawal Agrahari qualified for both the ICPC Amritapuri and Chennai regionals! ?? We secured an AIR-32 at the Chennai regional, which is also the best rank achieved by any IIITA team at any single regional this year!
Out of 12 questions, we managed to solve 6! ?? Here are some memorable moments from the contest:
At Amritapuri, we struggled with coordination due to a lack of group practice, which taught us a tough lesson. This time, we approached the contest with a solid strategy. Initially, we were a bit slow as we tried to inductively prove every solution,to avoid penalties.
We then tried a graph problem where we initially wasted 10-15 minutes contemplating complex maximum cycle algorithms. Ultimately, both Prajjwal and I developed two different solutions,we wasted 20 minutes trying to contradict each other’s solution ( perhaps both were correct? ??), After proving mine inductively, we coded it up and submitted, only to get a WA because we were not printing the length of the cycle. Fortunately, we submitted it again and got an AC! ??
Siddharth was already preparing for the 6th question involving querying unique elements from a range but in an online fashion. I had an idea by using a persistent segment tree but regrettably didn’t add the template. Instead, Siddharth suggested an approach by normal segment tree just by storing every next , and after coding that up, we scored another AC!
With that, we completed 6 questions and landed at 21st in the leaderboard :-). The 7th question seemed feasible, and I was able to calculate a closed-form formula for Prefixsum[2^i], managed to solve it 30 minutes after the contest ended, wishing we’d had those extra 30 minutes we could have made it to Asia West finals.
Regardless, as the great Kiwi lord said, "Failures must act as the fuel for success." This was an incredible experience that left me feeling more humble than ever. The competition was fierce and friendly at the same time.
I want to extend my gratitude to (of course) my awesome teammates, Siddharth Joshi and Prajjawal Agrahari for their tremendous support, as well as to Krishna Pratap Singh for all the institutional support.
A special thanks to Sparsh Jain for always sending those tough questions my way ?? and Vivek Gupta for helping elevate my algorithmic skills, and lastly ICPC - International Collegiate Programming Contest for organising a wonderful event.
2024 was indeed a hell of a year, but I’m proud to have achieved a 10/10 GPA in one of the semester and an internship at CodeNation, after clearing the hardest rounds , If anyone is wondering about my interview experience you shall find it here,

?? Here’s to a hopeful comeback in 2025!
