How long have you been with Select? My first event was Brighton & Hove Pride in 2017 ?? Tell us about your career path. I've been involved with organising events for over 25 years, starting my career on the production side of the industry and fell into the crowd management world after being introduced to Select through mutual friends/event professionals. ?? What do you love most about what you do? I love the variety of the events that we work on throughout the year, and our team is just wonderful! ?? What has been your favourite event to work during your time with Select? On 10/06/18, the streets of London, were transformed into vast rivers of green, white, and violet as 80,000 women and girls marched through the city to mark 100 years of the first British women voting. PROCESSIONS was a moment for celebration and reflection and a living portrait of what it means to be a woman today. ?? If you could swap roles with anyone else on the team for a day, who would it be and why? I would swap with Peter Smith, as although we work closely with each other, our roles couldn’t be more different… plus I always feel that the more ‘on the ground’ knowledge/experience that someone can have working in Event Control, the better! ?? What's a skill or area of expertise you'd like to develop further in the coming year? I'm looking forward to completing my Level 5 in Crowd Safety Management early next year and grabbing any training opportunities that are offered. ?? If you could give someone who is starting a career in crowd management a snippet of advice, what would it be? It can feel like decisions need to be made instantly when incidents are happening on the ground, but my advice is to take a moment to think, refer to the plan and trust your team.

*Event Management :* A perfect example of quick thinking and problem-solving skills in action. During dinner at the wedding function, Bride's worried father rushed to the Event Manager and whispered in his ear : All are taking Carrot Halwa only, nobody is taking Gulab Jamun. What will we do if Halwa gets finished and Jamun is so much surplus ? My prestige is at stake!! "Don't worry at all, Sir. I will set it right." Said the Event Manager. Then he dialled a number and said, " Hello, Sanjay, listen carefully. Remove Monica from Halwa desk and shift her to Jamun desk. In her place, ask Abdul Chacha ?? to serve Halwa." *You can't be a successful event Manager just like that !"??

It was a moment of pure joy and gratitude, shared with colleagues who felt more like family. **Reflection:** Looking back, the preparation for this Ramadan event was more than just organizing a celebration. It was about building connections, fostering a sense of community, and experiencing the true essence of Ramadan together.

Organizing a successful Holi event was a fantastic experience!?? Here are some key learnings from the process: ??Planning is Key: Starting early and creating a detailed plan was crucial. This included setting a date, securing a venue, organizing activities, and promoting the event. ??Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Collaborating with a dedicated team made the workload manageable and brought fresh ideas to the table. Delegating tasks based on each member's strengths ensured everything ran smoothly. ??Safety First: Implementing safety measures such as providing organic colors, having first aid kits on standby, and ensuring proper crowd control enhanced the overall experience and minimized risks. ??Effective Communication: Clear communication with participants, volunteers, vendors, and sponsors was essential. 6 tips to help you plan an inclusive, unforgettable offsite (for the right reasons! ??) Over the years, I’ve designed and delivered more events than I can count, it must be in the hundreds now. I've learned a ton of lessons along the way. Fun fact: whilst writing this I realised that the last time I attended a work event I didn’t organise myself was over 10 years ago ?? ???? Whose role it is to plan these events and celebrations is a debate for another day but the reality is - many people who work in smaller organisations have this wrapped up into their job descriptions. And it’s not easy! You can be the most organised person in the world, but event planning can still feel overwhelming.
