There was a period of time where Ping Pong table sales were used in Silicon Valley as a barometer of investment health. Over time there have been some other incredibly bizarre measures of confidence. These have included the size of a CEO's signature, the average length of a Powerpoint, and perhaps most concerningly, the length of women's skirts (fortunately, this was some time ago). Am writing a presentation for the World HR Summit in Dubai tomorrow, and amongst various rabbit holes one thing has become clear to me. We need to be very careful about what we measure. Innovative cultures have soft signals. And that poorly managed adjustment against bias can create worse bias. Employee Experience needs to be approached in the same manner as Customer Experience. HR needs a board seat equal to Marketing Leaders who now drive the discussion. It is this that creates a culture of bottom-up innovation, and this is more important than ever in an age of automation, data, and risk of culturally insensitive optimization. The greater the demands of the customer, the more difficult the demands on the team. And as the CEO has increasingly become the advocate of the customer, there needs an equal tension -- that thinks beyond 'purpose' or 'values' and rather the journey of the experience. 'membership' -- lifelong learning, role adaptation, community, coaching, event programming.

During HRSE Dubai, we had the privilege of discussing corporate culture and company values with Bhaskar Ballabh Saikia, Lead Product Marketing Manager at Vantage Circle. Here’s what he shared: Q: What is “corporate culture and company values” for you? A: Corporate culture reflects how people behave and act within the company. It’s about the behavioral transformations that align with the organization’s objectives. Core values are the guiding principles shaping this culture. For example, values like respect, sustainability, and health become the foundation for creating a harmonious and effective workplace, helping the organization achieve its goals. Q: Do you think corporate culture and company values should coincide with the values of employees? A: Absolutely. Without core values, it’s challenging to build a unified corporate culture. Core values act as a standard reference point for both leaders and employees, fostering alignment and reducing mismatched expectations. When everyone adheres to shared values, it creates cohesion and clarity in the company’s direction. Q: What elements do you think corporate culture consists of? A: Corporate culture comprises various components: - Learning and Development: Embedding behaviors through structured training. - Engagement: Fostering strong internal communication and collaboration. - Innovation: Encouraging constant progress and creative solutions. - Technology: Leveraging tools like recognition systems to support these elements and enhance cultural initiatives. Q: Do you conduct a corporate culture satisfaction survey among your employees? A: Yes, we are currently working on this with our internal tools and pulse surveys. These surveys cover 12 segments, including engagement, relationships, innovation, and benefits. Feedback is analyzed by HR to develop strategies for continuous improvement. Q: How often do you implement something new in your corporate culture and how? A: Core values remain consistent unless a major transformation is needed. However, we continually adapt processes, tools, and communication systems to align with our culture and improve efficiency. Bhaskar’s insights underline the importance of core values as the backbone of corporate culture and the need for dynamic tools and strategies to foster alignment and growth. At Teal HR, we strive to provide solutions that help companies cultivate cultures rooted in shared values, engagement, and innovation. What’s your take on aligning corporate values with employee engagement? Let’s discuss! #CorporateCulture #HRInnovation #EmployeeEngagement #HRInsights #TealHR #HRTechnology #WorkplaceValues
