The Annual Strategic Internal Communications?conference last week was my first in-person conference since 2019 and I didn’t just get to deliver a workshop about crafting change communication — I learned a lot too! There were so many great talks and so, so many wonderful conversations, but here are a few highlights: Bo Breuklander delivered a fantastic workshop about employee advocacy. It's a key strategy in organizational change, and hearing the depth of his insight was so helpful. Molly Soto's workshop about transforming internal communications with AI innovations probably received the most questions during the Q&A ?? She made AI accessible and relevant to everyone in the room. Eric Haman and Donna J. Tuttle both shared thorough, thoughtful case studies of people-focused initiatives at their organizations, Eric for West Pharmaceutical’s centennial celebration and Donna for Whattaburger’s employee app. In addition to being floored by the detail and drive that went into conceptualizing, designing, and implementing the two initiatives, their talks gave me something more invaluable: a reminder to stay openminded about what I can learn and who I can learn from (there are PEOPLE behind the injectable pharmaceutical packaging and hamburgers, and people-focused strategies are good strategies). I also learned that I have to build more self-care time into conferences and work travel! As soon as I got on the road, I went back into 2019-Caitlin-mode, packed schedule, late nights, no exercise (except walking around Boston), and all. At least the breakfast and snacks at the Omni Parker Hotel were nutritious and delicious! I’ve just about recovered from #ALIComms and I’m excited to continue talking about how compassion not only makes us better communicators, but helps us design more impactful, successful change strategies from the very start at our?Organizational Change Office Hours this Thursday, July 25th at 2pm EST on Zoom (link to register in the comments).
