?? Reflecting on My Journey: From Footy Coach to Leadership at Navantia Australia ?? As I celebrate two impactful years at Navantia Australia, I find myself reflecting on my past experiences back in Western Australia, where I thrived as a footy coach. My brother recently reminded me of this old video where I coached the GF, where principles of my leadership style shine through — something that resonates deeply with my current role. In this video, I discussed several key points that are just as relevant in the boardroom as they are on the footy field: 1. Merit and Hard Work: Success isn't just about luck; it's earned through hard work and intensity. 2. Sacrifice and Accountability: Whether on a field or in an office, the readiness to take responsibility for your actions, and to support your team, defines a strong culture. 3. Capitalizing on Momentum: Recognize when you are at your peak and make the most of it — even if it’s at 2 AM on a Sunday! 4. Embracing Challenges: Life is full of challenges. Facing them head-on is crucial, regardless of past outcomes. 5. Celebrating Success: When success comes, take a moment to celebrate. Appreciate the victories and cherish these times. 2 years at ATB, wow! Yet I look at peers around me celebrating 20/25 years and I can’t help but be a bit jealous of their accomplishments. 23 years is my actual finance career and I need to remind myself that with that experience comes diversity of thought and external experiences. What I have witnessed over my career is how one or two senior leadership changes can have such a major impact on employees and culture. Introducing change may be the single hardest challenge as a leader and that there are so many ways to do things. Let people lean into their strengths and success is achievable if you can get out of their way. Celebrate accomplishments and cheer on innovation.
