There's still mass confusion about what the looming TikTok ban entails. Here's the skinny ?? When ??: Unless TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance sells the platform to a government-approved buyer, signs point to the law going into effect in January 2025. How ?: TikTok won't just cease to exist in January 2025. Instead, app stores would be forced to remove TikTok, preventing users from receiving app updates. Those who already have the app downloaded would experience bugs and glitches over time, rendering the app unstable and unusable. Insight for Marketers ??: - Most creators either have a presence on multiple platforms or have started to branch outside of just TikTok - The most natural second platform for creators + brands to build a presence on is Instagram - However, PRNEWS reported that nearly half of TikTok users say they will migrate to YouTube if the ban goes through, vs. only 39% claiming they'd use Instagram more Major Takeaway ??: Activating creators with an established or growing presence on YouTube for campaigns targeting Gen Z will be crucial in the coming year. https://lnkd.in/ekVpqrZN #TikTokBan #TikTokInsights #InfluencerRelations #GenZMarketing

Where are TikTok users going to turn for product inspiration if the platform goes dark? It's a big hypothetical, but one worth exploring given the massive hold TikTok has, especially among younger generations. We surveyed over 1,000 beauty shoppers in April, and among those who said TikTok was their main source of social product discovery, Instagram was the clear winner on which social media platform they'd turn to if TikTok were no more. This was even more true for Gen Z. With Facebook in second and YouTube in third, it's clear that the platforms that have already invested in short form video formats, like Reels and Shorts, would be the first stop for many former TikTok users. But could a new platform altogether soak up some of that use? It's entirely possible, particularly given that short video consumption is unlike the social media use of years past. #onStrategy TikTok vs. Instagram BBC is reporting that TikTok is working to launch an Instagram clone. Why? Well, at least 6 reasons: 1/ By introducing a dedicated photo and text-sharing platform, TikTok can diversify its offerings and not just be seen as a video-centric platform. This could attract a broader audience who might prefer other forms of content over video. 2/ TikTok has a massive global user base that primarily interacts with video content. By offering a new way to engage - through photos -it can leverage its existing audience to boost the new app's usage, similar to how Instagram benefited when it introduced Stories, a feature originally popularized by Snapchat. 3/ As social media platforms increasingly borrow features from each other to retain users and increase time spent on the app, TikTok entering the photo-sharing space is a direct challenge to Instagram’s dominance in this area. It reflects the ongoing competition where platforms seek to become all-encompassing media hubs. 4/ The move comes at a time when TikTok faces significant regulatory challenges, especially in the U.S., where there is political pressure due to its Chinese ownership. By diversifying its app offerings, TikTok might be trying to mitigate risks associated with potential bans or restrictions on its main app. 5/ A new platform could also provide TikTok with more data on user preferences, enhancing its algorithmic targeting for both content and advertisements, thus driving revenue. 6/ Despite the social media consultant's skepticism about the demand for another photo-sharing app, TikTok might see an opportunity to innovate in this space, offering features that distinguish it from existing apps and draw in users looking for new experiences. One thing is for sure: it will gate the further increase of Instagram. Source: https://lnkd.in/gz5hyqKM ?? Getty Images

TikTok Ban In USA The TikTok ban in the United States means that the app is no longer accessible to users within the country. This decision was driven by concerns over national security, particularly the fear that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, might share American user data with the Chinese government. Key implications of the ban include: App Removal: TikTok is no longer available for download on app stores in the U.S. Restricted Access: Existing users can no longer use the app as its services have been shut down nationwide. Impact on Creators: TikTok influencers and content creators have lost a significant platform to share content and generate income. Economic Consequences: Businesses that relied on TikTok for marketing and outreach are affected, and TikTok employees in the U.S. face uncertainty. The ban could be reversed or adjusted in the future, depending on political and legal developments, such as ByteDance divesting its U.S. operations or changes in administrative decisions. #TikTokBan #BanTikTok #TikTokShutdown #TikTokBlocked #ProtectOurData #FreeTikTok #Businesses #DigitalFreedom #FirstAmendmentRights #SocialMedia #Content #Creators #Community #TikTokers #CreatorsWithoutBorders #EndContent #TikTokMigration #NewHomeForCreators #Alternatives #Influencers #LifeAfterTikTok #PostTikTokEra #TikTokAlternatives #ReelsVsTikTok #WhereToNext #Advertising #Productpromotion

? The clock is ticking on TikTok. Under the new Protecting Americans Act, TikTok will be banned from U.S. app stores by Jan. 19, 2025, unless ByteDance sells the platform. Current users can still access the app, but without updates, its performance may suffer. While the possibility looms, I believe it's unlikely to materialize fully. Still, let's examine the what-if scenario: 1?? Impact on UA Campaigns: TikTok is a key channel for reaching Gen Z and Millennial audiences. A ban could mean a shift to other platforms like Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or Snapchat. Costs and competition will rise. 2?? Diversification Is Key: Advertisers relying heavily on TikTok should already be exploring alternatives, ensuring budgets and creative strategies are adaptable. 3?? Is It Realistic?: TikTok has faced similar challenges before. Its significant user base, economic impact, and ongoing legal battles make a complete ban unlikely. Stay agile and prepared, but don’t panic just yet. #TikTokBan #UserAcquisition #DigitalMarketing #MobileMarketing #AdvertisingTrends #TikTokAds #GrowthMarketing #MarketingStrategy

The TikTok saga continues and it’s moving quickly! Over the weekend, TikTok went offline in the US for over 12 hours before being restored with a “Welcome back!” message. While it’s back for existing users, it’s still unavailable for new downloads on the App Store. President Trump has given TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance 75 more days to work on a deal to sell part of the platform to a US-based company or face further restrictions. While this drama unfolds in the US, it’s a good time for those of us in the UK to plan ahead. Here’s why: ?? Back up your content. Tools like SnapTik or myfaveTT let you save your TikToks watermark-free, perfect for reusing them on Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. ?? Protect your hard work. Social media changes quickly, so safeguarding your content ensures you’re always a step ahead. ?? Explore other platforms. Diversifying your presence ensures you don’t rely solely on one app for your audience and engagement. With conversations about TikTok ownership continuing and no clear answers on its long-term availability, being proactive is key?? As mostly everyone knows, the potential TikTok ban was passed, so let's talk about the next steps and what this actually means. For starters, TikTok will NOT be banned tomorrow, and it will not be deleted from your devices. ByteDance is given 9 to 12 months to sell TikTok to an American buyer. If TikTok does not, then TikTok and all other apps owned/created by ByteDance (TikTok, TikTok Notes, Lemon8, CapCut, etc.) will be taken off the app stores and banned within the United States. So users, content creators, and small businesses have a minimum of 12 months left on TikTok, instead of freaking out and stopping all content creation; you should be posting even more and more consistently! Stay calm and keep posting as normal; make sure whatever TikTok strategy you've been using that's the most effective is being used. Also make sure you try to migrate your TikTok audience to your other platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. This way if TikTok does get banned in the US, you will not lose a percentage of your demographic audience. What are your thoughts on the TikTok ban?

TikTok has quietly entered the arena of image and text-based social media with its new app, Notes, currently available in Australia and Canada. Functioning much like Instagram, it provides a platform for users to share still images accompanied by text. The app seamlessly integrates with existing TikTok accounts, allowing for a familiar experience. While lacking features like Stories and Reels, Notes offers a fresh canvas for creativity. Its global expansion plans remain undisclosed, but its initial launch in these two countries hints at a strategic testing phase. Concerns around privacy and governmental restrictions persist, particularly in countries like Australia and Canada. As for Meta, the parent company of Instagram, the impact of Notes on its dominance in the social media landscape remains uncertain. With Instagram recently surpassing TikTok in app downloads, the competition between the two platforms continues to evolve. Do you think Instagram will stay on top or will TikTok take over? #TikTokNotes #Instagram #SocialMediaNews #SMM #SocialMediaManager #TikTok #SocialMediaAgency #Marketing #MarketingTips

Is it time to pivot from TikTok? Now that January 19th has passed, the TikTok saga has left us with more questions than answers. While it’s no longer in app stores (for now?), over 170 million Americans still have TikTok downloaded on their devices. So… what does that mean for your social media strategy? TikTok is still here—and if your audience is already on the platform, there’s no need to jump ship just yet. Keep posting, keep engaging, and stay consistent. But this is also a pivotal moment to evaluate your overall strategy. What happens if TikTok becomes less functional or inaccessible? Diversification is key. You should NEVER rely on only one marketing platform. The lesson? Digital marketing is always evolving. When we were locked out of the app for ~15 hours over the weekend, I had a backup plan ready to go. Not sure how to pivot or where to focus your energy? Let’s strategize together.
