Here are some words of advice for creative people who are navigating their careers with what can sometimes feel like a faulty compass.??? ? Never get comfortable. The comfort zone is the mortuary of creative careers. Test yourself, always. Push yourself into territories that scare you. Be willing to fail. “I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.” - David Bowie ?? Keep doing. Being constantly creative is the key to creative longevity. Keep making new stuff. Have side projects. And, as the title of Austin Kleon’s great book says - ‘Show Your Work’. Put it out there. Let people know who you are and what you’re doing. There are 8 billion people on this spinning space rock and not many of them know you exist, change that. ?? Remain forever curious. There’s a lot in this world to be amazed about. Go to more art galleries. Read more books. See more films. Listen to more music. Dig into how other creative people do what they do. “Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people.” - Leo Burnett ?? Make these four E’s part of your life. Explore (new directions and possibilities, always.). Embrace (new ideas, techniques, and technology, never fear the ‘new’.). Excite (yourself, by doing new things and seeing what is possible if you try). Educate (yourself, be an eternal student of your craft and creativity in general). ?? Have a posse. Don’t be an island. Surround yourself with people on a similar path, people who will encourage and support your creative career mission and in return, you’ll do the same for them. Be around positive people, and ditch the negative ones. “The less negativity you allow in your life, the happier you will be.” -Paul Coelho As part of my ongoing mission to help elevate the creative careers of 1,000 people, I'm launching the second edition of my NOTHING LIKE A CREATIVE BOOT CAMP for creative people looking for some more direction, insights, and creative career advice. Held over 4 weeks with a mix of 60-minute group video calls and 60-minute 1:1 calls with me. Please note: if for some reason you're not into group calls you can opt to do this solo. Plus, I am giving away a 1-hour one-to-one coaching call that you are welcome to gift to a friend if you know someone who may benefit from it. “This boot camp isn't some "rah-rah" motivational talk that fades away once you leave—it's genuine, refreshing, authentic, and invaluable, and I believe what you gain from it comes down to the effort you put into it. Trust me, there's "nothing" else like it.” - Brett P. Creative/Copywriter, Los Angeles, USA. Did NOTHING in June 2024 ? Please do me a favour and repost this to your network. So, let's do NOTHING together. More details are in the carousel below. Sign up by Aug 23 for a 10% early bird discount. We just transformed a 19th-century French castle into a week-long creative haven. ??↓ 26 storytellers pushing the boundaries of online media were invited to our first ever international event. Here’s how it came to be: It’s been two years since we hosted the first Creator Camp. Back in 2021, we met simply as online friends wanting to combat loneliness. To spark connections between the artists not just making “content,” but pioneering a new wave of digital storytelling. We slowly realized how universal the need for authentic connection was getting online (especially for independent creatives) and wanted to continue widening our impact. Fast forward to June 2024, we expanded this mission further than we ever thought possible — hosting our fourth week-long event in the quiet countryside of France??? When you find people who can match or complement your creative energy - the world opens up. The dreams once kept to yourself all of sudden feel more tangible and attainable than ever before. THIS is what we aimed to explore at our fourth Base Camp — the power of creative collaboration. —————————— About Base Camp: Le Brossay ?????? From introspective workshops about creating and writing to far-off village excursions, this week served as a container for the creators' ideas to roam. We placed the cohort into curated pairings and prompted them to make one collaborative artwork by the end of the week. On the final night - we held a climatic showcase showcase of everyone’s projects. Some of the works included: a 15-minute short film made in 3 restless days, mixed-media graphic designs, a discussion around online censorship & audience dynamics, a horror short, 3D-scanned self-portraits, and a few cinematic odes to the creative process. —————————— Gratitude & Looking Ahead ??? None of it would've been possible without our partners Patreon & Notion! They are truly setting the pace for how companies can best work with independent creators. We’re excited for what’s to come together. There is a lot more in store for the next year: from larger-scale events to potential industry campaign opportunities with our creators. Follow along if you're interested to hear more. For the next generation of storytellers, CC.

"Our content must be intersectional because we are intersectional" ??? The Principles of Inclusive Design for Social Media seminar presented by Del B. through SMPS West Michigan gave incredible insights about the importance of DEI in the realm of design and content creation. While I could say many glowing things about Del's presentation, here are my biggest key takeaways from his presentation! ?? Intersectionality exists EVERYWHERE. We are constantly interacting with people different than ourselves; no two people are the same, meaning your content cannot only fit the idea of one person. Therefore, our content must consider the variety of people in the world because diversity is what our world is. ?? Knowing your audience is a step towards creating properly inclusive content. Pay attention to the input you're receiving; don't take their perspective, listen to what they respond to and what they have to say. Co-creative design processes can help you create the right content. ? A simple checklist for inclusive design? Check for accessibility, equity, clarity, diversity, and predictability. What do we want this post to do? Is it easy to use? Is it formatted for the correct platform? Ask yourself questions surrounding inclusivity before posting content to ensure inclusivity is being achieved as intended. ?? Use your resources to check your accessibility level. Tools like Adobe, Canva, and Microsoft now include features to help assess accessibility. The AP Style Guide is a great tool to format text in an inclusive manner. Including things like closed captions on videos or ensuring contrast between text and background can help make for more accessible content. ?? Ethical concerns should be held to a high regard, especially on social media. Be sensitive to cultural differences, authenticity, stereotypes, or power dynamics. Avoid pandering by learning through the experiences of others- show us what you're actually doing to support diversity. Educate yourself on subjects surrounding diversity. ?? Be responsive. Take accountability. If you make a mistake or an error, acknowledge it and take responsibility for your actions. Everybody makes mistakes; it is the willingness to improve and right your wrongs that builds trust and authenticity between you and your audience. Working towards a more inclusive and equitable world includes how we design and share on social media. Educating ourselves is only the beginning! #InclusiveDesign #SMPS #SMPSWestMichigan #Design

?? Have you stopped to look at yourself? Today, while I was on the metro, I came across this ad, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s from the Museum of Human Evolution and the Atapuerca archaeological sites. At first glance, it seems simple, but it has so much to teach us as future marketing professionals. ?? Why does it work so well? Instant impact: The hominid’s face grabs your attention immediately. In a place like the metro, where people are caught up in their thoughts, it really stands out. The power of one word: It only says "Look at yourself." Just one word, yet it carries such a big message. It’s almost like it’s speaking directly to you. Context is everything: Placing this ad in the metro is a genius move. It’s a space where people are standing still or waiting—perfect for a message that makes you reflect. A cultural message with a twist: This isn’t just advertising; it’s about culture. Tying it to institutions like UNESCO gives it even more credibility and weight. ? What I’m learning as a marketing student: This ad reminded me that sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective. A powerful image, a clear message, and the right context can turn an ad from “just another poster” into something that truly connects. ?? What do you think? What does this ad say to you? If you were working on a campaign, how would you adapt this strategy to something entirely different? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #MarketingStudents #Advertising #Inspiration #MuseumOfHumanEvolution #LearningMarketing

Behind the Scenes of Creating Defensive Leaders Graphics ?? Attention to detail is the unsung hero of great design. As I created the visuals for the WNBA Defensive Leaders (REB) post, I learned how crucial every pixel, font choice, and data alignment is. ?? From choosing the right colors to reflect each team’s brand to ensuring the stats were both accurate and visually striking, I discovered that the smallest details can elevate a graphic from “good” to great. Here’s why this matters: ? Precision builds credibility: Accurate stats and clean design make your audience trust your content. ? Visual hierarchy improves impact: Highlighting leaders like the 3-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson effectively meant balancing aesthetics with clarity. ? Creativity meets consistency: Incorporating WNBA branding while adding my personal style required sharp attention to branding guidelines. This process reminded me that details aren’t just details—they’re the foundation of storytelling. ?? Have you worked on a project where attention to detail made all the difference? Share your experience—I’d love to learn from you! ?? We're getting close to capacity for our next Creatives & Coffee event -- and for good reason, it is going to be a lot of fun. Here is an overview. If you're interested, don't sit on RSVPing... The Creative Exercise Few people are better than Richard at making a statement in a clever, head-turning visual. (Think of his infamous?Bloomberg Business?covers) He can tell a story with just a single image and a few words that offers a hilarious social critique. At this event, he will share how he recontextualizes and reuses cultural icons, meme culture, street art, news, and media trends, along with a bit of cheeky behavior, to design conversation-sparking images. Call it a?first-thought, best-thought process, which he will share with attendees.?Then attendees will have the chance to apply Turley’s process to creating their own magazine cover. Who should attend? 1.?Creative Directors?who want to go inside the mind of someone who has surely made them jealous over the past 10 years. 2.?Brand storytellers?who feel they are creatively boxed in and want ideas to break out of it. 3.?Publishing pros?who yearn for the good old days of print, but now live in the digital world.
