Edit: Ginny Marvin says this has always been the case. Note: deactivate Optimized targeting so you only have Audience targeting. :) Demand Gen campaigns got a silent but huge update some weeks ago —audiences are now categorized as "signals," just like audiences for Performance Max. Since Google did not announce anything, I will interpret my analysis: whenever Optimized Targeting is switched on, audiences will become just signals. Google, change my mind in the comments. ???????? ???????? ???????? ????????? Before, with audience-targeted campaigns like Demand Gen, you could directly influence who saw your ads. Now with this silent update, these audiences (?????? ???????? ?????? ????????????????????) serve as "??????????????," providing Google’s AI with hints about who may be interested, but not limiting ad delivery. All in all, signals are suggestions rather than strict targeting rules, allowing a lot broader reach and more flexibility for the Google Algorithm. ?? ???????????????????????? ?????? ????: -> ?????????????? ??????????: With signals, Google can show Demand Gen ads to users who are not in our defined audience lists. This can lead to unwanted traffic and potentially losing conversions but may need close monitoring to ensure relevance. I analyse and optimize those audiences segments (signals now) with my Demand Gen Playbook, which you can buy now too. -> ????-???????????? ????????????????????????:?Just like in PMax, signals are here to train Google’s AI and optimize in real-time, combining signal data with Google’s insights for better ad delivery. But thats unfortunately now always the case. -> ?????????????? ??????????????, ???????? "??????????????????": While losing some control over exact targeting may feel challenging, this model has the potential to discover high-performing segments you might have missed with strict targeting. This is the promise Google makes with "AI-powered Signals". ?????? ??????:?With broader reach, CPA will fluctuate. Keep a close eye on bidding strategies and adjust as needed to maintain a reasonable performance. If a certain signal consistently drives high-performing users, consider eliminating other signals to boost spend on that signal. Did you notice it too? Thomas Eccel, Nothing has changed with the way audiences work in Demand Gen campaigns.? Demand Gen continues to support audience customization with the ability to target unique audience segments. More on Demand Gen here: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/13695777?hl=en As always, when Optimized Targeting is enabled in Demand Gen, it can expand targeting to users predicted likely to convert based on real-time conversion data. But is it still possible to disable optimized targeting so that audience signals revert to audience targeting?
So basically the only way for traditional remarketing is GDN campaigns....
Thomas Eccel Mykyta Soima I guess it makes sense that optimized targeting triggers the "signals" feature, because technically you allow Google to go beyond your audiences. And that when you turn it off, the "signals" turn into actual targeting. Good insights!
Insightful
If you are wanting a demand gen ad group to solely target a specific audience(s) - from the ad group level settings turn off “optimized targeting” - this will make the campaigns only target the audiences you designate and not seek to target beyond your audiences!
I don’t like this update
